I bought an old singer machine. Never sewed in my life. I watch a few videos and practiced a little with some scraps. Then just went for it! It’s not 100% but looks so much better then my old. It does take time and patience. I probably wouldn’t do it again. You really need to have a professional machine to do it right. I’m actually waiting for my vents from Rizzo as well. Their stuck somewhere in transit for over three weeks now

What’s next then? Things must be pretty well progressed if you’re at the stage of test driving? Just a matter of reassembling the interior and flashing the ecu’s and configuring the cluster?

Yea I have most of the interior in. Just need to finish a few parts. I’m still waiting for my aluminum vent to arrive before I permanently install the dash.
Need to run new wires for relocating the windows switches.

Looks like we’re trying to achieve the same thing- close off the paddle gaps.

My approach is 3D scanning the cowling and printing off some super tight fitting inserts. Idea is that it’s all reversible if anyone ever wants to do that.

Yes I saw you posted on your thread. Would love to get a 3D scanner! That looks awesome. Are you going to have them 3D printed.

I’m very lucky- a pal of mine has an inspection company (https://matrix-ai.co.uk) so I got to use his £70k creaform laser scanner for the cost of a few beers.

Idea is indeed to 3D print the inserts and bolt them on where the paddles would have been. We’ll see how they come out; may not be able to maintain the cowling shape perfectly due to the shape of the paddle mounts.

To be honest, you’re idea is far more cunning. You gonna pour in some plastic compound, or maybe fibreglass?

Did you look into sourcing the proper covers first? If you pick them up used, they aren't that expensive, surprisingly (around $100 total for both covers + shipping).

Nice work - I am going to convert my car this winter if I can find all of the parts. All of these folks doing conversion have made 2 or 3 pieces either ridiculously expensive (shift gate plate) or just plain NLA (pedals / turret). I've looked into having them cast locally and selling them at cost to fellow converters, but I can't even locate an original piece to scan/use to create a mold. Frustrating, to say the least!

I’ve looked for used ones but had no luck. I purchased a RH clutch pedal a few years back that I modified. There is a guy that is selling the shift gate for 1800 made of aluminum. I was able to get mine for a fraction of the cost because I used the 550 part number. It was the last one in stock at the factory!

Might have a few issues using a 550 gear gate... you’re aware that reverse is in a different place on the 550 vs the 360? Also I think the gear spacing and throw will be quite different.

I wouldn’t be keen on any aftermarket gates that are from milled Al- be way too soft for long term use. The one on eBay is stainless steel though.

Your absolutely correct. I meant to say the California. 550 was in my head for some reason.
