Harbor Freight Jack Stands Recalled for Risk of Collapsing The Harbor Freight jack stands that we've all bought, borrowed or seen in our friends' garages are being recalled due to a risk of collapsing under load. Go check yours immediately. In a recall filed with the NHTSA on March 20 of this year, Harbor Freight explains that certain 6-ton jack stands have the potential to disengage their support pawl under shifting weight, causing the stand to drop suddenly. A second recall, filed May 3, extends the recall to 3-ton jack stands. The defect is attributed to aging tooling at the factory that produced the jack stands. One of my biggest fears. What a way to go I always use a loaded jack on both sides of the car as additional insurance. Whenever I get under a car I’m always wearing my brown underpants.
I put wheel ramps under mine just in case. The tires are not on them it just looks like it, the suspension is unloaded. I also use pinned jack stands not the ratchet type never trusted those. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep mine are the pin type as well. I still hate getting under the car even with those. I’m in constant fear the last thing that will ever go through my mind is my cars diff. you just wanted to show off those lovely strakes, didn’t you.
Ha ha well.... people make crazy stuff from cardboard. My 348 has 355 tail kick envy, will make one from cardboard as well.
I understand spending cheap money on disposable crap from HF for those times when quality doesn't matter - think glue brushes, etc. - but jack stands don't fall into that category. I use these and love them, pin-type and the three-leg base makes them very stable. And always back up by leaving a jack or two in place. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I like this version but wish the center post was screw type so you can get exact positions. The company that made them no longer carries other than 12ton. Though 6 ton would be really great. Floor jack stands are always off an inch when u need them for low profile suspension work at exact height. Don't have room for the hydraulic setup unfortunately. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
I use these jack stands, they are industrial screw type, don't know if they are available globally. https://www.rehobot.se/en/products/axle-stands-pb/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
Those look nice. Doesnt seem like we can get them in the states. We are flooded with chinese garbage stands.
Some screw options at least https://www.amazon.com/10802-Screw-Style-Capacity-Height/dp/B01EJDSV5O https://www.asedeals.com/store/zinko-jack-stand-zjs-1218/
I never extend my jack stands, I always adjust their height by stacking solid wood blocking under them. And a jack or 2 for good measure. And if 1 or more wheels are off, they get stored under the car also for further redundancy.
