    Hi,

Replacing the WP on my 308 with a new one.

I searched but surprisingly came up empty nothing is holding my 308QV WP to the casting except the gasket ( and likely some permatex) both are aluminum and I wanted to learn the best practice for separating these without damage.

Also, need tips on safely removing the pulley w/o damage to the pulley.

Correct, just the gasket … and a few m6 bolts. Remove all bolts, use a razor blade to insert between the housing and gasket. Create a gap, use a thicker wedge to make a bigger gap.

Thanks ! wanted to get a voice of experience before I went at the aluminum with a screw driver or blade or pryer -- any chemical to dissolve the gasket and cement overnight?

Best way to pull off the pulley ?

No chemical will dissolve that asbestos gasket.

Use a plastic scraper/spatula and force it into the gap.

Depending on when it was last apart and by whom, a good careful whack might get it loose.

Hit the seam where the pump bolts up to the housing with a dead blow hammer. She should come loose. However if the studs are corroded then some penatrant may be needed, but that is rather rare. All else fails, just drop it off a roof..should be good..;)

HOORAY! - the razor blade - increasing plastic wedge method worked like a charm - I got different size plastic wedges used for spacing and leveling floor tiling - ( real cheap) and it separated .

Now to remove the bolt and pull the very expensive pully w/o damaging it -- anyone have a best method -- I don't have a hydraulic press but don't think I should need one with a good technique.
