Units with older firmware beeped every time the pump ran but can easily be programmed to turn off all audible alerts except for faults. New firmware updated "normal mode" so that audible alerts only occur for hydraulic system issues.

Maybe so but last time I checked the unit had to be sent to Switzerland for an update.

Note there is also a version that is just an electronic replacement for the relay without all the fault detecting and reporting.

All of these smart relays have user programming modes where you can change the settings. You would only need to send the unit back if you feel you need to update the firmware.

I’ve been in contact with Scud Ing and the only option is to send it in and pay for shipping and update. Already payed a lot for the unit. Not willing to pay any more for something that should work from the first place.

Suit yourself. As others have already pointed out, you can also leave the relay in and simply disconnect the smart module so you'll get no alerts, lights. etc. I also was in touch with Scud Ing and they pointed out that you can turn off all of the routine audible alerts in the old firmware version which I was able to do in a few minutes :)

As I pointed out earlier there was no way to turn off these alerts apart from updating the unit. I already checked this with Scud Ing and they were reluctant to help. I had to pay for shipping and the update.

Hey Bruce, are you running the smart relay? I'm having fault 7, which is high/frequent pump cycle and given the age of my f430, I changed or serviced a majority of associated parts including e-diff solenoid. I'm not aware of the bleed screw or if the mechanic didn't tighten properly, but I believe its worth a shot before buying the pump, which was replaced 2 years ago. Is there any other failure points I should look at? I blew 1 hose already and got that taken care of. I don't have a pool of fluid at the right wheel from known leaks or overflow. Happy heatwave weekend!

Dan, yes I am using the smart relay and to be fair to Zed82 I found the frequent beeping annoying with the old configuration and just ignored the alerts initially. When I started experiencing shifting problems, I started paying more attention and noticed I was getting fault 1 - "too long pump run cycle."

There are a fair number of threads from other 430 owners that discovered loose actuator bleed screws and as the originator for this thread discovered, that seemed to be a key factor along with the ediff solenoid which you already replaced. Correcting 2 of 3 loose bleed screws definitely made a big difference in my case and I stopped getting the smart relay faults immediately afterwards.

I don't think the bleed screws are used in any routine service, but that they are just vibrating loose at some point and I guess sucking air into the hydraulic circuit. Some posts mention putting a little sealant on the screws to prevent reoccurrence. I also keep reading that the pumps are really bulletproof and if anything the pump motors are candidates for replacement if the pump has too many cycles or long run times. In any event, checking out the bleed screws is low cost and definitely worthwhile to see if it corrects the frequent pump cycling alert your getting.

I originally thought it was an error so I diagnosed the car several times both at the dealer and a specialist. Both concluded that the system was working as it should. They did approx 10 hours of diagnostics which included much driving. The specialist shop even had contact with the guy in Italy that was originally in charge for the F1-system. All the numbers were within specification for the system.

After I removed the smart relay I have driven approx 6000 miles without any issues. Scud Ing admitted that there was an error on my relay because it alerted for every pump cycle and after that they updated the newer ones. I spent too much money on diagnosing a functioning system and to pay more to update a faulty unit is too much to swallow.
