One of my favorite holidays as a kid.

Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque had a huge open house and airshow on this day every year.
Rode my bike onto the base and spent the day.

Later, when in CAP, worked crowd control.

    Good memories.

Odd coincidence. I got an email from a friend this morning about the 2020 high school and college graduates upset because they weren't going to have the proms, diploma ceremonies, and dances, etc. because of the pandemic. My 1944 prom was on the flight line at Hondo Air Base, my diploma ceremony was opening a manila envelope at the post mailroom, and I think that my "dancing" was when I had the G.I.'s. I didn't think anything about it and felt fortunate that my name wasn't yet on the KIA list in the high school lobby like some of my friends were.
