Liberty is trying hard to keep F1 teams in the game Thats it
Well, speaking about results, Hülkenberg is not even close to Frentzen. H-H Frentzen achieved three Grand Prix wins and 18 podiums in 156 starts, and was a credible challenger for the 1999 championship at the wheel of a Jordan. Nico Hülkenberg did not achieve one single podium in 177 starts... Now, I'm ready to consider and mitigate by all kind of adverse circumstances, but not even one single podium in 177 starts ?? Rgds
Hey liberty I have a better idea to get F1 fans excited again Bring back V10's and V12's that rev to 20,000 RPMs and have no fuel restrictions and no silly moveable wings and no stupid battery packs. Oh, and BTW; This will also LOWER COSTS to the teams.
You are right. Frentzen was far better than Hulkenberg is. I remember Frentzen being heralded as equal to Schumacher in the 90s; they both were Mercedes juniors, I believe.. Williams even dropped Damon Hill (who went to be WDC!) to make room for him, but he never delivered as much.
Frentzen and Hill raced together in 1999. He massively outpaced poor old Hill. Actually Frentzen outpaced all his team mates... except when it mattered most: the only time he had a winning car at Williams. I suppose that put the nail in his coffin.
You must be talking about Hill's last year at Jordan. Hill was beyond his shelf life by then. Hill wanted to walk away from F1 and only kept going because Eddie Jordan treatened to sue him! I believe Hill even parked his perfectly healthy car on the side of the track at one GP!
Alonso will bring in the fans--lots of Alonso fans--and that is why Liberty would pay (at least some)
I do believe that is the case...Another one of Claire's brilliant moves in an effort to make the team solidly last? Maybe she's betting on reverse grids becoming a thing...
Frentzen made a public comment about team owner Eddie Jordan's allocation of capital and was sacked IIRC.
That would be an interesting conflict of interest. Everybody could argue that if they were given free drivers they could be closer to the top and the show would be better.
I don't see any way Liberty can directly support 1 driver or team. It would be like Penske owning IndyCar while running a race team... Are we witnessing the collapse of the business model?
Discord: Mercedes code for "we don't want our drivers actually racing each other" Lewis has a nicely protected position
And not knowing the WCC and WDC after race 1... Teams must be allowed to improve their cars. Bring back testing! Unfortunately,... with the new budget cap...testing / improving cars and engines (power units) will become even more limited. Alonso on the grid won't fix what is wrong with F1.
The tangible effect of Mercedes protection around Hamilton is akin to Ferrari's protection of Prost. Before they sacked him ofcourse.
Or last place based on the remaining teams. . Can Fezza now demand a rebate from Liberty for acquiring Sainz ? Mclaren for Desi ? Might be a field day for everyone now that Liberty has shown their hand.
It's kind of interesting that we haven't had an F1 season at all but the Silly Season is going like gangbusters!
