What's the point? It's not like Renault is suddenly going to leapfrog Red Bull, Ferrari, & Mercedes and start winning everything.

    Absolutely bizarre if true.

Why, after years driving about at the back, and do nothing but complain, would he torture himself with exactly the same thing again? Renault will have the worst engine. Renault will not have moved forwards with either their chassis or aero.

Someone photoshop Alonso onto a SM torture table, he's clearly a masochist.

Great driver making bad moves once again.

Anyway, can't wait for the colourful radio messages once he realises what he's gotten himself into.

I respectfully disagree, Joe, in a friendly way: I think Hulkenberg was overrated; just another Nick Heidfeld to me: the future star that never achieved...

As for Fernando Alonso to Renault: weird. The Renault of today has nothing to do with the Renault of 2005, and Abiteboul is certainly no Toto Wolff...
Clearly, Fernando feels he has "unfinished business" in Formula One. And as Ferrari was not receiptive to him "offering his services" (at some cost...), nor was Mercedes, nor was Red Bull, nor was McLaren...well..
Seems to me that it's very one-sided: it's Renault's gain, as they needed a boost for their sponsors, or their board, before the company's board pulls the plug on F1; but for Fernando? I am a fan of the driver, if not a fan of the "man"(or what we see of him...) and therefore, I don't want him to trundle with the mid-field at almost 40 years of age, just like a certain Michael Schumacher did at Mercedes ten years ago; one should not chase his former glory for too long, and know how to retire in a gracious way.

    Rgds

    F3 ! F3 !

Could be entertaining though watching him bang wheels with Ocon for 10th position.

F1 has become WWE. It’s all about the drama and the price of its shares

I have no idea if we can give any credibility to this bombshell or if it's another sample of fake news.
The pundits don't have much to report these days during the season "break".

    2 things.
If really Liberty would pay part Alonso's retainer to get him a seat at Renault, what the other team will think about it?
It's a bit of a cheek for Liberty to subsidise a driver; aren't they suppose to be impartial?

Also, for Liberty to pay to bring back the sulky ageing Spaniard ex-champ in a no-hope team shows how desperate they are.
They may think that Alonso on the grid will bring some excitement in a rather tame show, and perhaps attract the crowds.

The Alonso to Renault rumour is quite strong, maybe there is some truth in it, but the part of Liberty paying for it must be a Abitebouil´s crack dream.

If true it is an act of desperation by all concerned.

Makes sense if you consider that maybe Alonso just misses driving an F1 car after various Toyotas and Dallaras. And it's not like Renault (and the crew at Enstone - which Alonso knows well) are totally useless.

Many a bored millionaire would give anything to drive an F1 car (see Stroll and Latifi), so imagine getting paid to do it. I would.

In any case, an indifferent, uninterested Alonso is still much better than Vettel..

F1 could also be taking a page out of the PGA tour book. With Alonso and Kimi near or in thier 40s, F1 may be starting their version of a "Senior Tour"

If (and it seems like a big if) Liberty did pay a portion of Alonso’s fee for Renault,... I suspect it was to prevent Renault quitting.

if this is true,... Williams is gonna be PISSED OFF.

    One last gasp for Fred.

Seriously though, there's the real possibility he gets shown up by Ocon.

Plenty of rust to knock-off there. That would be sad to see as was Michael's return.

Even more bizarre that..Renault has quit and come back so many times, why should liberty care? Even engine wise Renault only supply themselves and I think Williams after 2021?
