I did not think any of the L series had mouse hair on the dash, it was just a solid surface? I have serial number 00464 and have seen a number of other earlier cars and don't remember ever seeing it.

Having not sold on BaT, can buyer insist on PPI before full payment?

It's an auction, so I would assume usual auction rules apply. Or is that not the case?

You have the ability to have the PPI completed during the auction but after that it's buyer beware. Can have as much dialogue with the seller as you want also. I've bought and sold cars this way and never had a problem. Have to assume that even the best presented cars will have issues because everyones expectations are a little different.

$410-425K reserve, but I have been wrong many times.
Too many very difficult to find 'wrong' items, for a lot of $$$.
Took me 8+ years to find a 'proper steering wheel...
Classiche or not, it is always a Dino, and we know that, no? ;)

    Regards, Alberto

It goes tomorrow, 5/12, about 16 hours from now. It’s presently around 10PM EDT. Bidding at $310K currently. Looks like it may be worth watching. Plan on getting popcorn for the watch.

Can a sales presentation driving video be made more anti-climatic ? When promoting something that’s expected/supposed to be exhilarating experience, why not make it appear & feel like it, instead of driving like it’s just another boring daily grocery getter ?

I've just noticed another detail that is incorrect (unless the L series differed from the M and E). The door card should be in two sections for a leather interior with the ribbed centre panel leather mounted to a separate board and overlaid onto the main panel. In this car the trimmer has tried to make the ribbed centre section panel replicate the heat stitched, single piece Dino vinyl panels by simply stititching the centre ribbed section "under" the main leather panel.

Interesting that there was no back and forth bidding in the last moments. Good money. “A rising tide lifts all ships!”

Some interesting(!) comments on BAT in the course of this auction, including one person who reckons he has a "large stable of what I would consider important cars” including two 246s and at least two 308GT4s, but doesn't seem to know that his 308GT4s were designed by Bertone - he thinks they were the work of Pininfarina.

Thanks for all of your insight into this car - I was the underbidder in the auction and wanted to let the Fchat community know that the commentary was extremely helpful to my overall evaluation of the vehicle. If anyone knows of a very good metallic 246 please let me know - does not have to be an L series. Back to the hunt...

Am stunned it went for $390K. Would have thought mid 3’s. Some wise crack made claims that the chairs/flairs cars would be $475-550! Wonder what rock he’s been lying under for the last 5-6 years. Yes, values are improving but not to where they were at the height of the market. Perhaps one day.......

That wise crack came from me. I said for the rarer Dinos, L series should price from $400-450k, C&F's $450-550k and nice 206's $600-700k. Looking at Hammer Down today, the last 5 C&F's sold in the US in 2018 and 2019 brought $555k, $483k, $484k, $528k and $500k. Just saying...

Sorry you missed it. Very nice looking car, although I am a bit lukewarm about the colour.

Alright, I apologize. I have not seen those numbers you quoted in many years. Alas, I’m fairly lazy so the only source I patronize is Ferrari Market Letter and what can be picked up on FerrariChat. Don’t follow “L” Series, 206’s since I don’t own one. Know it follows lineage. Haven’t seen a 206 lately on auction at BaT. Again, sorry if I inappropriately ruffled your feathers. Hugh

No worries. I have a 72 GTS that has been Classiche'd, a 69 L series and a 74 C&F's. Always wanted a 206 but watched prices run up. I stay pretty tuned to market and am usually at all of the auctions. At the peak in 2015, a couple of 206's brought upper $700's and highest sale was $803,000. Symbolic just had a car for sale for $595,000 that sold relatively quickly, don't know what it needed. Tells you how much market is down across the board. Every now and then you'll see an outlier of all Dino varieties that bring less, but usually they're not all that great. When markets soften, the good cars usually get put away. When good cars show up, even if they have a few flaws like the car today, they'll bring all the money.

Thank you for this information. You previously mentioned “Hammer Down”. Is this a website? I don’t know about it but am interested. I introduced my ‘72 Berlinetta within the last 6 weeks or so on Ferrari Chat. It’s the one in Bleu Chiarro Met. Trying to do major refreshening while hunkering down. Car should be out this Summer. Thinking about reinstalling the headlight covers this Summer. Hugh

I owned 00542 (just three cars back on the assembly line) and the dash was mouse hair. In fact, if you take a look at the Dino Compendium, you'll see that all L series Dinos had a mouse hair dash which was another key point of differentiation between it and the 206GT.
