Does the deck mesh really alter cooling that much? I don’t have any numbers so I can’t really say, but I feel more heat on the back of my neck with my top down. So, it “seems” like better air flow w/o the mesh.

High engine bay temperatures were reported which led to the development of the Challenge grill. The mesh was removed to assist in cooling. you can also see the prototype Challenge muffler with its three outlets. The upper outlets are burning the paint. I can tell you this:: In Texas summer 107º heat:: changing the cats for test pipes results in a 5ºF drop in water temperatures (from 130º to 125º) and a 20ºF drop in oil temperatures (from 285º yo 265º) in race track conditions (HPDEs). On the street, even in back road conditions; one sees a 5ºF temperature drop for both.
I may have gone a little overboard) Big diffuser and front lip to follow along with headlight change. I’m planning to get rid of the pop ups for fixed headlights.
