I am about to go nuts!
As Oscar Wilde once said, the best way to get past temptation is to yield to it. I select a quiet road on a quiet day (to decrease the chance of being road blocked by the police) and I away I go. Don’t stop anywhere, except for fuel (with mask and gloves). Kind regards, Nuno.
That’s cool. Over here there are roadblocks and you’re only allowed to pass if you can prove you’re on your way to/from work, or attending to a sick person. Otherwise the police will escort you back home. You have to choose your route carefully, because if you don’t have a written document providing a plausible cause to be driving and you’re stopped by police... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I drive where I want. We still believe in civil rights in USA. Ironically for purposes of these sorts of discussions, you are more likely to die in a car accident in Florida than from COVID....truth. So...go drive and INCREASE your risk of dying....
Been dailying mine to work. Dedicated secure covered parking FTW. Roads are so empty engine barely gets warmed up. Bonus is I'm waking up 20 minutes later than usual.
I find this to be a perfectly acceptable form of social distancing. Also -the faster you go, the more distant you get.
1117 COVID-19 deaths in Florida in April according to https://infection2020.com 3133 traffic deaths in Florida in all of 2018, for 261 deaths a month https://www.iihs.org/topics/fatality-statistics/detail/state-by-state Now let's assume no one currently on a ventilator in all of Florida dies henceforth. And let's also assume that car traffic didn't go down and all in Florida and it was just as dangerous a place to drive this April. Let's also assume April is over. Even with all the assumptions going in favor of car deaths, 261 is a lot smaller than 1117 in my book. Care to cite where your truth comes from?
In the beginning of our shut down, I was getting to work in record time. It was the only saving grace to this whole debacle. I don't want to say I was going 100mph where usually it would be a 20mph crawl, because then I would sound irresponsible and of ill-repute, but I was definitely going 100mph on empty public roads and I regret nothing. Traffic has been slowing increasing so I'm behaving, but I'm still taking the 488 to work as often as possible. Such a fun car.
My “truth” comes from 1st grade math....as you state 3133 is a lot more than 1117...in my book. 1117 is total deaths so far and not going to hit 3133 by a long shot since we are way past peak.
I put 2000km on my 488 in 6 weeks!! Driving the car out for an hour or two is an extra step I take in practicing mindfulness - focusing on the present
These Draconian measures are microcosmic of the globalist agenda in their relentless pursuit to exert ultimate control over its citizens. The ad hoc infringement of civil liberties during the pandemic is simply a litmus test to determine the extent of population restraint that governments can impose without civil unrest. The pandemic poses as a pretence for the erosion of democracy. Governments will always over extend their power if they are left untethered. The burden lies upon the citizenry to curtail government encroachment upon their fundamental freedoms.
We've had restrictions here prohibiting the leaving of the household for anything other than grocery, doctor or work where you can prove your work cant be done from home. The Nazis have been out in force and the fines hefty if caught without having a good reason or outside of the locality. Restrictions lift tomorrow so its game on to a limited degree. I'm only hoping for restoration of the track days which were also all cancelled. So looking forward to going for a drive.
I don’t fight the urge. The weather is perfect and the only cars on the road in the evening are pizza delivery drivers. Ka Band alert has not even gone off on my radar detector on the last 8 drives. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Similar. Apart from a few trips to the vet in the truck w/ the pooch, when we have to shop for food, we take one of the fun cars. We also don't necessarily take the straightest route, or go to the closest grocery store. Hand sanitizer, masks, gloves in use as appropriate; sensible social distancing; all clothing goes in the washer once we get home; all high-touch surfaces in the house wiped down w/ bleach solution...T
