David, fwiw, I don't think BHCC is a good market indicator of high's and low's, for any model really. Alex tries to buy as low as possible, and then sell under "market" to move inventory at a decent pace. The cars are not usually in the best condition, and they don't typically command high prices for this reason. Just my $.02

How can you take a single example that you have no information on and make such a comment? Aren't there many variables that determine the value of a car - event the same model? Just saying.

A new low? No. But it all depends on your timeframe. In 2013 I was tempted by this car which went locally for $29,000.

328 prices were low, then high, then low, then high, and now low. And eventually high. Then low. The trick is determining where you are on the cycle....

BHCC inventory is garage. Not a good market indicator. All luxury goods will taking a hit because of current world situation.

I've always wanted one of these so if they do drop I'm a buyer. I think the good ones are still at a premium and will continue to hold regardless of economy.

The market has really softened with the 3X8's over the past few years. That nice value blip in 2014/2015 seems to have been just that. A blip.

BHCC doesn't sell "nice" Ferraris. It probably wasn't worth 50K before the pandemic.

Look at every screw on that car. They all show rust, even the steering wheel screws show corrosion. I wouldn’t buy that car for any price.

    nothing to see here.

    decent 328's were $40k +/- $10k in 2000. I didn't understand the bubble too much except for fiberglass 0's, GTB's, and '89's.

That said the 328 design has aged like the finest wine. 20 years latter I look at her as more sexy than she's ever been. Look at the design catastrophes she's outlived in the last 35 years.

Also check out the other thread how the 328 may be the most reliable and solid Ferrari ever built.

OK, never mind, they'll be worth solid 6-digits again soon. ;)

I was there last week looking at another mark. Here are other samples of F cars there. Love the barns find 250 GTE and Maser. 50k square feet facility with at least 150 cars there. Might be a great place for those who like to DIY.

Expecting a used production car (like our 3x8's) to appreciate - as in an
"investment" - is like expecting used beer to be worth more than fresh beer. ;)

I respectfully disagree that prices in general are down, in any relevant matter. Quality cars are (surprisingly) still moving at top dollars, even during the health crisis. The market has certainly become more selective and a exceptional deal might be found here or there, but I think it’s hard to argue that clean, good record, low(ish) mileage 328’s are transacting on the cheap.

I got stir crazy yesterday so at 4PM, I got into my 1989 328 and did a 10 miles loop around 92 and 280. Got it up to 100 MPH once just to open her up on an empty stretch of 92. Got off 92 and merged onto 101 and a CHP got right on my ass. I thought I was done for but he was just on his way to something else. I pulled off anyway and got some gas. Two guys pulled up and commented on how beautiful the car looked. I have always known that.

Beverly Hills Car outfit, I wouldn't buy a Honda from those guys.

BHCC is consistently offering vehicles that are in complete opposition to the advice, "buy the best example you can afford."

Well, what is "top dollar" and how does it apply to an "investment" as folks sometimes use the term here? I think we can all agree that a 250 GTO, which you could have purchased in the late '60s for 18,000 USD and now sells for 40-50+ million USD has appreciated! Since that 18k USD would be the equivalent now of 133,000 USD, if you bought your GTO then and sold it now, subtracting the 133,000 equivalent that it cost initially, you would have a "profit" of...40-50+ million USD!

OTOH, let's look at an '89 328. The window sticker and the sales receipt on mine shows that the original owner paid 86k USD in 1989. How does that look as an "investment?" Well, since that 86k paid in 1989 would have to be 179k today, it looks like a major loser investment-wise as far as money is concerned. However, if you believe that you can invest in "fun," that's a different deal! :)

I've always operated under the "Buy High, Sell Low" philosophy anyway so the idea that anything I ever purchased or plan to purchase will "appreciate," is pretty much an alien concept. o_O

I like your "invest in fun" concept! ;).
What I meant by "top dollar" was in relation to pre-covid levels. Point being that I don't think prices have not plummeted in the last couple of years as the thread title suggests.

Actually Mike, if the original owner paid $86k in 1989, immediately placed his 328 in a climate controlled garage, regularly serviced but never drove it and put it on the market today it should theoretically bring top dollar. So if $86k in '89 would be equal to $179k today, and according to the latest issue of Cavallino 328s are currently valued between $70k and $180k, he might even make $1k on his investment. Not a wise money maker, but he would not have lost a penny and going into the garage every day for 31 years and simply gazing at his gorgeous 328 would have been priceless and perhaps worth the investment. Of course he'd have to own another car to drive during that period for the fun factor (like a manual 430 for the last 15 years or so).:)
