I'm looking to buy a Saratoga top for my 1988 328 GTS. There is a guy selling one on eBay for $10,500, which I think is about $3k above market.

Anyone in the market to sell one?

    The benefits for Ferrari Chat.

It appears the eBay seller is a longtime FChat member which allowed us to communicate and reach a deal.

The top looks really sweet so I am excited to be getting it. I also hope it affords me just a tiny bit more headroom, along with the much better view.

Drove the 328 for the first time with the top off yesterday and it was magical.

This car brings a huge smile to my face every time I drive it!

Todd have you seen them on the car in person?

No, I have to admit I have only seen pictures, both inside and out. I think they look really good.

Are you inferring that they don't look as good in person?

Thanks for sharing the pictures, and I agree, it looks great. I was somehow worried you were implying something else.

Do you feel like you gained headroom? I read somewhere that given that there is no headliner the Saratoga top gives almost another inch of headroom.

You know between the original with headliner vs the Saratoga top isn’t much of a different. The Saratoga top is not a bubble top where it gives a lot of headroom., I would say you probably gain about an inch to an inch and a half. The big difference really is the looks and the ambiance inside while driving and believe it or not, during hot sunny day, it’s not that much warmer inside.

I would be thrilled if it gave me an inch. When I took the top off the other day for the first time I felt so much better driving the car. I need about an inch of clearance to get comfortable.

I'm also glad you said it doesn't really get warmer as that was a concern of mine. But I guess if it is a really warm day, with the sun beating down, why would I have the top on? Now that I took it off once I realize how easy it is to do.

Thanks again for the pictures and input. I'm counting the days until I get it.

Mike, I would estimate the Saratoga top adds about 1/2” headroom. I have never put a tape to it but I’m 6’3”+ and 1/2” seems about right.

Todd, if you’re the only one who drives the car and seat adjustment isn’t an issue there is a fixed seat bracket design that adds 1/2” or so of headroom. Easily reversible.

I don't know of a bracket, but it would be fairly straight forward to remove the adjustable runners and bolt it straight to the floor mounts with a thin strip of steel.

Man, that thing still looks like you'd fry in high summer! It would be great in winter, though...

They don't increase the interior temp any noticeable amount.

I have rarely taken mine off in the 10 years or so that I have had it and I live in the deep south.

I can’t believe no one wants to make these for the 308/328 cars (they all use the same size top, right?). I would think at least 1/4 of owners would buy them in a New York minute if given the opportunity at a reasonable cost.

I think I remember reading something about people doing a run of these targa tops for 911s on Rennlist. I think the company that was making them was out of NC and was an OEM glass provider to car companies. I will try to dig that up again.

I know that Pilkington did a run of 944 sunroofs, but they didn’t have the ability to do the Ferrari roof for some reason.

I can’t believe they don’t increase the interior temp. I had a Corvette with the tinted top and it was a nightmare during a sunny day. Hot! How could this be different?

    Dunno but it doesn't.

I don't even have a working a/c so I use it as a sun blocker to keep cooler on long drives back from Atlanta during the hot months.
