Challenge seats are definitively not folding. Took me one year to find one and then the other, get them refurbished and installed in my car. Makes sense because it is a challenge but otherwise not comfortable nor practical if you are tall. Managed to find them on ebay. Wasn’t cheap for bits of CF in lousy condition
the grey seats SoCal1 posted are very rare, very special seats - i will let Tim explain when he wakes up and comes online, but they are probably from a 348 Serie Speciale
Correct they are 348 SS seats same as the F40 seats. Best seat option in my opinion for a street car I have the stocks those and challenge seats for all 3 of my challenge cars + spares Proper seat dying is done with dye not the letterette latex stuff they use to do temp fixes on car seats
I believe dont quote me its called an aniline dye with clearcoat similar OEM methods. Im not the expert
Another nice set of the 348 SS seats on eBay. If I wasn’t planning on selling my 348 I’d consider making an offer on them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-348-Speciale-Carbon-Fiber-Seats-Black-Leather-on-Carbon-Fiber-Shell/193418009704?hash=item2d089c9c68:g:4cYAAOSwdWZeaXGJ
Technically, they're not quite the same as the F40 seats, but the difference is extremely minor. The F40 seats only have two rectangular holes, one for the buckle and the other for the belt - compared to the 348SS seats that had the 3 holes. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have Challenge seats, but both need upholstery. I haven’t found the time to get them re-done and I’m picky about how I want them to look. To be honest, I can build challenge carbon bucket seats pretty easily. Quality will be twice as good. Problem is getting the plastic belt loops, foam, and upholstery which is beyond my expertise.
Can someone hurry up and remake the carbon 355 seats already If someone has a rough pair I would be willing to do the leg work.
Have you seen all the reclining components/mechanisms that go into it? Impractical to do because of that alone.
I have not, but at nearly $10k per set (if not more, and if you can find one) it's not outlandish to 3D scan everything and use modern tech to speed up the reproduction process....I would imagine anyway.
I've wondered the same thing Ken. I have a F40/348SS seat back that has a small crack in it that could be used to pull a mold if someone else has a seat bottom shell. I also remember my old 348 Challenge seats when they were recovered. They were kevlar/carbon fiber weave but realistically, there was a lot of chop strand fiberglass that made up a lot of the bulk in those seats. It'd be fairly straightforward to pull molds from these shells too - other than the need to refine the mold compared to loose quality of the oem shells. Plus it's a single piece shell, unlike the F40/348SS seats, which is split because of the recline feature. Should be able to 3D print the plastic belt loops. just need someone willing to measure one up. Or perhaps make them from aluminum with a black Cerakote or powdercoat? I don't have upholstery skills either, but I'd think that a custom upholsterer (folks that do custom work for street rods, show cars etc) would be able to make up the foam and upholster the seats.
Use upholstery shop for the foam and padding and upholstery and stitching. Lots of good choices there. As far as plastic bits CNC them out of aluminum and powder coated black satin, I can have it done.
The plastic belt loops are standard items and were the same as fiberglass seats from OMP of the same era. I bought a pair of old OMP seats for next to nothing to get hold of the loops.
