The 9500ci has been discontinued for a while. I had it on my cars for years and was very happy with it. I did start getting a lot of false alerts when the blind spot tech came out. These run on K-band, which isn't used by law enforcement where I drive and I ended up just turning K band off without issue. If K band isn't an issue where you drive the 9500ci is fine for Ka band. Laser is a different story. If laser is heavily used where you live you need one of the latest laser jamming systems - laser alerts are useless. Escort, ALP, K40 and Stinger all offer jamming setups. If you need K band a lot of the newer systems have filtering to limit the blind spot false alerts. The systems with GPS also do a great job silencing the false alerts from places like grocery stores that have the auto doors. The old V1 drove me nuts with false alerts but a lot of people are die hard users. I bought one of the new Gen 2 units but haven't tried it yet. I've read mixed reviews. I prefer custom installed systems - which can be moved if you trade cars - I'm having the Escort MAX Ci 360 installed on my 488 this week.

Do these things really keep you from getting a ticket, or just make you more likely to take chances until you get a ticket?

I have a 9500ci that was already installed when I bought the car. I find the noise it makes annoying. Is it telling me I got clocked already? Would I slow down even if it was 'warning me'???

Most of the time, I am not doing anything to attract the attention of the revenue collectors. If I am, I am doing it so well this thing wouldn't give me sufficient notice to change the outcome.

Big difference between radar and laser. If you are approaching a radar trap you should typically get fair warning and have time slow down. Range for alerts will vary. If you are hit with laser and only have a laser detector it is game over. Only effective defense is a laser jammer, which basically scrambles the light and prevents them from reading your speed - to a point. The closer you get to the gun the less effective the jamming becomes. Laser jamming is illegal in some states. Some jammers will automatically stop jamming after a couple of seconds so you will have a smaller window to get on the brakes.

Let me rephrase: Have you gotten any tickets since you started using the detector?

if you don't mind sharing, how much is the Max Ci 360 installed total? (and is your price with or without laser jammers?)

I want to second this. I've used Escort radar detectors in every car I've owned (over 30) for the last 16 years. In that time I've gotten exactly one ticket, doing 83 in a 55 at 2am coming home on a deserted back road by an out of state trooper with a laser. These have easily saved me 3 or 4 tickets a year, so do the math, well over 50 tickets these devices have saved me. Now I live in a state where most all LEO have radar and not laser, so take that for what it's worth.

The MAX Ci Platform starts at $2000 with front radar. You can add components ala carte. The full MAX Ci 360 with front and rear radar and laser is $3599. Installation is not included. This system is only available through Authorized ESCORT dealers. The total amount invested will vary based on the car it's being installed on, complexity of install and options - such as adding custom displays. Final pricing is always open to negotiation. There is a dealer locator on Escort's website if you need to find a local installer.
