This one is said (in the Q&A section) to duplicate the Ferrari Boxer unit. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/vta-11092-vut?seid=srese1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq7DFwr3Y6AIVTNyGCh2R7wboEAQYASABEgJ2VfD_BwE
Yes, but its capillary tube is 48 inches long. I've measured the length needed in my early 308, and it needs a minimum of 57 inches to reach. Mike Flanagan
Yes that makes sense, my knowledge is more with the air outlet being controlled so this setup took a bit of getting my head around. The Ranco outfit in uk could nothelp but i see there is a support e mail address in the US he could try.
I saw a program on uk tv where someone was repairing something similar- the tube is filled with a liquid and then the end is sealed, so might be an idea to google a repair specialist ?
I found one with 50 inch capillary and -35 to + 35 c , too short but send me an e mail address and will send u a link so u can see the idea
I've had a request in for help from them for over a week now and haven't heard back a word. Mike Flanagan
It's time for an update. I finally received a reply from the Ranco - Robertshaw.com - people, the original manufacturers, and there is no replacement being manufactured by Ranco currently, that they can recommend. Scratch that option. I received the substitute that I had my eye on, http://www.partdeal.com/mei-rotary-thermostatic-switch-12-24v-with-72-in-capillary-length-adjustable-1337.html . I've installed it, paying attention to leaving the capillary tube slack coiled up near the switch end. I think that it became broken when I was replacing the plastic bezel covers for the levers on the console. I certainly wasn't paying enough attention to the capillary tube then. Making a neat coil of the excess length, near the switch, should make it easier to be gentle with the Capillary Tube, if there ever has to be a Next Time. Mike Flanagan - '77 308 GTB
The last word: I had the opportunity to give the A/C system a good test today. It is working very well. For the record, my '77 308 GTB (#22963) has the Classic Auto Air conversion kit https://www.classicautoair.com/shop/1977-ferrari-308-lhd-air-conditioning-system/ Now it is working and it is working very well. Thank you to all who helped me with your advice. Mike Flanagan
