I watched it last night with Neralee ... had to explain a lot to her ..... man she is dumb I found Fangio modest in some parts and full of himself when he mentioned Ferrari and how he straightened him out If you read Enzo's memoir "my terrible joy" there is a whole chapter devoted to how much he disliked Fangio
Just noticed this post - looks like Bruce McLaren in McLaren M2B at Monaco 1966, engine is Ford twin overhead cam Indy V8 2995cc. Big and heavy. Chris Amon was to race a second car but never appeared after Bruce finished fifth in the US GP
Three M2B's were built. Two with Ford DOHC V8 and maybe one with a Serenissima V8. This engine was less powerful but more compact. Have they survived?
Like many who followed that period of Grand Prix racing and because Mclaren only raced twice with that motor ,it had escaped my attention ,I can always remember the huge trumpets for the injectors but had never gave it any thought. Always just remembered McLaren running the various BRM motors in 66/67.Then from 1968 the standard as per the norm for many the Cosworth DFV...................1966 was a year where Formula one stepped away from the under-powered 1.5 litre formula into a whole new period ,with so many jewel like motors ....the V8 Climax the BRM V8 (2 litre) and V16,Maserati V12,V6 and V12 Ferrari the Weslake V12 ,the Honda V12 and the Phil Irving designed Repco. The next two years only got better when the following motors also came on the Cosworth DFV,Cosworth FVA ,Matra V12 ,Honda V8. Great times ....
