Sorry Graham, but I certainly disagree with both of you. They require no more maintenance than a Commodore, just REGULAR maintenance, like any car. Of course, they aren’t a Toyota, but what other manufacturer has their level of reliability and blandness? My 456 has been fantastically reliable, once I got it back to scratch. The single BIGGEST problem with these cars, 456’s, Mondial’s, 400’s etc. etc. is the people who buy them. They are relatively cheap compared to other Ferrari models and affordable at a stretch for many people, and normally the ones with deferred or no maintenance and upkeep. Try buying a perfect example of even a Mondial and see how you go. Buy one for 60k and you are going to complain for the rest of your life saying Ferrari ownership is horrible, they are unreliable, blah blah blah. Yes they are more expensive in some cases to repair, but in many cases comparable to a normal car. I’m not talking from theory here, as you know I had 2 of them and they were both very reliable. I’d like to know exactly WHAT the constant failures were on yours mate? Plastic degrades and perishes on EVERY car, and Ferrari’s are no exceptions. Some things might be under engineered, and some stuff certainly over engineered. At the end of the day, we get what we pay for.

The owner is a lovely fellow and quite clever. He loves the car and was near new when he bought it. He intends to keep it for ever, but would like to have a manual. For him, it’s not about the cost, which will probably go past 40k, it’s about keeping the car he loves and tailoring it to his liking. Believe me, I did try to talk him out of it and trade it on a manual, but apparently there were only 32 RHD manual M’s manufactured. Graeme would likely know the accurate number.

Family members together in a car not planning on stopping anywhere, what does it matter?

Who cares? They went for a drive and didn't get out of the car.

I hope that fine is cancelled

The Government is asking people to refrain from non essential travel.

What are the Stage 3 Restrictions in Victoria?

Actually I changed my mind. You're right. Even though it's a great time to give your child driving lessons , people will just start using that as excuse to drive to destinations.

    Sorry horse

If you’re agreeing with me, then now I will have to reconsider my position.

    No, it’s petty.

    A warning would have sufficed.

    No doubt heavy handed.

However, why would you put yourself in that position?

They weren’t getting out of the car, so no danger to themselves or anyone else.

On another note, my neighbour’s dog is called Murphy. :)

I don't see how going for a drive from and back to your home without leaving the car would contribute to the spread of CV19, even if it's teaching your kid to drive.
In any case, the simple answer to why are you driving should be "going to get food" or "going to get petrol" or "going to Bunnings" or "going to work" (or coming back from ).
Whereas responding " the roads are free of DH's and therefore I've decided it's a great time to take the Ferrari for a fang " is probably not the best approach, especially in Victoria.
