thoughts/recommendations from you folks on a few tires I’m looking at. Going with 205/55/16 front and 225/55/16 rear. Here are some I was looking at that come in the original oem sizes:

    - Pirelli Cinturato P7 summer
    - BF Goodrich Sport Comp -2
    - Dunlop Direzza DZ102
    - Continental Extreme contact DWS06

    What do I do??

Of those choices I like the Continentals however I’ll always recommend Michelin Pilot Sports first.

I run michelins on my other cars, I don’t believe they make pilot sports in those sizes

I know the manual has had lots of errors and I’m not saying it’s wrong but TireRack lists the 50 series rears for an 88. My 83 came with the same sizes shown with the 50 series rear so all 4 were the same height.
Good luck with whatever size, baby will look good with new pair of shoes.

I have the BF Goodrichs on my 87, and have been very satisfied with their performance.

Hi Chris, I just purchased Pirelli period correct P7's from Lucas Tire a month or so ago for my 89 Mondial T. Ask for Russ, these tires are newly manufactured but are of the same look and dynamics as period tires from the 80's. These tires were and are used on exotic cars like the Lamborghini Countach etc back then. I really like the look and road feel of these. I'm not sure if the P7's that you find on Tirerack for example are the same. In fact, I'm pretty sure they are not. Lucas specializes in classic car tires. I used the 205/15 and 225/15 setup and think they look great no noticeable fender gap in rear with 225's.

I love the look of the original TRX tires, but not at today's prices. So I took on a project to replicate their look. The bonus was a phenomenal ride combined with excellent handling for the street (tracking the car was never a consideration).

While the BFG 215/55-16 for the front became unavailable after I bought mine, their 225/50-16 turns out to be just a hair shorter than the TRX (just like the rear size). The only drawback, for some, is the wider tread widths.

The ones I bought are bordered in red, the available sizes are just below that in bold. Green highlighted are OE sizes.

Just don’t buy Firestone Indy 500 tires. I bought them for my Porsche 968 because they look good and according to tire rack they were quiet. Loudest tires I’ve ever had.

Any feedback on the Pirellis? I use Michelin’s almost exclusively on all my cars but have been known to run a Pirelli every now and then.

I've only run them for about 200 miles. So far so good. I find them very well suited to the suspension and directness of the Mondial T steering. They are quiet and you can feel the adhesion right up to the limit in hard cornering. They stick but feel soft and seems like you get some warning as to when they are about to break away and lose grip. Hope that makes sense. Plus they just look great on the car and while Michelin and Goodyears were original equipment for the car the Pirelli Italian thing just seems right to me. I also think they are as close as you will get in a new "old" tire design for these cars.
