The deaths are from the cohort of cases that might be included in positive tests from 2-4 weeks ago. We are not going to know the "final outcome" until everybody has had the disease. Not everybody will get the disease. At some point, there'll be a vaccine. There may be effective drug therapies. These are all variables. Even if we tease out the data so we can back-track and give percentage fatalities from time-matched cases (and there haven't been enough cases for that yet), there is still too much noise in the data to make any conclusions. So all we can do is draw a vertical line through the graph and give a snap-shot. That's exactly how the overseas figures are presented, so we can draw valid comparisons based on that.
