The Patriots winning was all Brady and zero Belichick. Case in point! Belichick had the exact team with Bledsoe, and couldn't win. Belichick should send Moe Lewis all 6 of his SB rings for knocking out Bledsoe and forcing in Brady.
A) He can't run, and B) Defenses got a helluva lot faster. Just in the last 2 or 3 years the speed of DL's has gone up considerably.
Certainly it was a collaboration. Brady is definitely the GOAT, but without a solid team around him he can't work miracles. It is common knowledge here (in New England) that even without an injury Bledsoe was going to be replaced sometime during the season because Brady was just so much better.
A) He never could run. Just last year he passed 1000 yards rushing for his entire career. What does that have to do with "a totally different game"? B) Brady is regularly one of the quickest release QBs in the league. Last year Brady took 27 sacks and Winston took 47. Let's see what happens this year, if there is a year.
Neither can 95% of the current QBs. Besides, how many running QBs have won a SB compared to the ones that cannot run.
Wentz could and did run. Foles couldn't. Wentz got smashed. Foles won a SB. Fran Tarkenton, where are you now?
I think we discussed that a year or so back. Steve Young, & then the list got very short after that IIRC...T
That's immediately who I thought of after reading Ace's post. Staubach was called Roger The Dodgers. I think, especially in the modern game, quarterbacks need good mobility to avoid every increasingly faster D players, but those who run all the time, eventually it'll catch up to them...T
I give up... Yes. Cam Newton ran wild his first two years, got hurt, and has never been the same. Robert Griffin - same thing. What people don't get is you don't need to be a 'running' QB, but you have to be able to buy 1-1.5 more seconds to allow your receivers to get open, and if you cannot do that, of course your numbers will go down. Everyone is blaming the WR's in New England, they are only part of the problem.
You're forgiven. You mentioned Peyton. He couldn't throw the ball past 10 yards his last season, but he captained his team to a SB. There are intangibles with a few special players. They inspire all the players around them. I read an article that agents are contacting the Bucs saying their player wants to sign with them because Brady is there. As an aside, I give Bruce Arians props for flatly rejecting any thought of bringing Antonio Brown in.
Dan Marino wasn't very mobile, but he had the knack of knowing when and how to sidestep the onrushing player and didn't get hit nearly as much as his lack of mobility would have seemed to predict.
sure - 25-35 yrs ago when a lineman that ran under 4.9 was a rare commodity. I do wish he would have bagged a SB, though, I like him a lot. It SUCKS that in order to get any respect you have to win a SB, it seems. Name one we talk about that didn't win a SB (besides Dan), there are not many.
To be sure. I recall that those Fins teams had pretty good O lines? Also, unless my memory is foggy, Marino had one of the fastest releases going...T
I think - no proof though - that deep down TB12 wants to prove he can lead a team deep into the playoffs w/o BB. We discussed this a while back, and I think apart from Montana, when the great QBs went elsewhere for a final fling, it never really worked out. And, Montana in KC never compared with Montana in SF, of course, how could he! T
The greatest QBs have Pennsylvania connections: bloodlines or teams. I am totally unbiased but it's true.
Mostly from the western part of the state, Keith? Actually, I Googled to see if there were any I didn't know about. Didn't know Johnny U was from the Steel City! https://www.pennlive.com/sports/2015/07/who_are_the_top_nfl_quarterbac.html T
The Commonwealth of PA has produced some of the finest human beings on the planet, Tom. Talented, handsome, erudite, compassionate, polite, generous and modest.
No, you are wrong, it was a Holiday Inn Express - he said that to the guys in his very first NFL huddle....
