I've only had the car 3 weeks, and it's my first Ferrari. The check engine light stays on 10-12 seconds after the car starts, then goes off. The car runs great.

    Is this normal?

Thanks Manda. I went by last week and talked to Rafi. Very lucky to have them 5 miles from my house.

Perfectly normal. My '06 does the same thing.

Here's one I think is strange - it's probably in the owner's manual though I didn't see it. After a drive, I'll leave the key in the car and let the fans continue to run for a minute or so until they shut off. I also open the rear lid to let the engine heat escape more quickly. Whenever the rear lid is raised with the key in the ignition, the red F1 gearbox failure icon is displayed on the dash. Ironically, to me at least, the small low-res icon looks a little like a box with an open lid though I guess it's a transmission with a stick shift. Anyhow, there's no F1 issue - just a thing the car does. There's probably some logic for why they display the icon.

My 07 euro does not do that. Maybe a US emissions thing?

Page 33 of owners manual shows pic of CEL and states :

While driving, to indicate a malfunction in the emission control system and in the ignition/injection system.

It remains on for a self-check cycle from the instant the ignition key is turned to position II until a few seconds following the engine starting.

Be sure to turn the key and wait for the CHECK OK before starting, then wait until CEL goes off before driving away.
