Better to scrap this season and just use new cars for 2021. No longer a reason to have this type car in use at all. Get through this economic and social situation and restart with new cars in 2021.

AMS: "Liberty and FIA are now even considering a budget cap of 100 million"

    http://www.gptoday.com/full_story/view/714300/Ricciardo_remembers_Sent_Abiteboul_a_long_email_with_points_for_improvement/

The new Concorde agreement has still not been signed by all teams. At the end of 2019 a good setup was made, but the signatures are still missing. Auto, Motor und Sport expects that this will remain the case for the time being.

Since last November, the draft agreement has been on the lawyers' table. The technical regulations and the financial agreements have been adapted to the wishes of the teams and the legal advisors of the race stables. Liberty Media expected to be able to announce in April that all teams had signed, but the coronavirus is throwing a spanner in the works.

For the time being, the signatures are still pending. Teams agree to the Concorde Agreement for the next five years, not just anything. An unnamed team boss says to the German medium. "Before a team commits for five years, we all need to know if we will survive this crisis. At the moment, there's no talk at all about this subject. There are more important things to do now."

According to AMS, FIA President Jean Todt and Formula 1 boss Chase Carey have realized that the coronavirus situation gives them the golden opportunity to drastically reduce costs. A budget cap of $100 million is even mentioned now. For now, it stands at $175 million. All teams have to give their approval to lower the budget cap even further and especially the top teams seem to get in the way.

In the absence of a new Concorde agreement, a one-year extension of the current agreement would also be possible. The Concorde Agreement, which is to apply from 2021, is designed for the technical regulations that would originally enter the premier league of motor sport in 2021. However, this can no longer be complied with now, since the technical regulations have been postponed until 2022. A one-year extension of the current agreement would save time to overcome all bureaucratic hurdles. The consequences of the coronavirus for Formula 1 could mean that the top teams would still agree to a lower budget cap and thus make Formula 1 'financially healthier'.

I suppose they are increasingly worried about the small teams like Williams and Haas surviving.

With no income from racing, no revenue from television, and the likelihood that sponsors will not pay for races not run, how can small teams even begin to think about designing "new" cars to meet the 2021 rules. Wouldn't I the better to pretend that 2020 never happened, and push the 2021 rules back a year?

Maybe they want to eliminate the big budgets to save the small teams?
I cannot see Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull accepting a 75% reduction of their budget.

The FIA has already decided that the 2020 cars will be kept for 2021, and that the new rules will only be introduced in 2022.
To me, that sounds like an indication they intend to write off 2020.

2021 F1 rules delay will disadvantage Ferrari more than its rivals -

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/148852/2021-rules-delay-will-disadvantage-ferrari-more

Ferrari says the delayed introduction of the 2021 regulations has likely put it at a disadvantage to its rivals, but had to accept it for the sake of Formula 1.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic wrecking the F1 schedule, and teams facing huge financial pressure with a likely cut in prize money and sponsor incomes, the sport's chiefs have moved to make drastic changes over recent weeks.

Following discussions between teams, governing body the FIA and F1, it has been agreed that the current generation of cars will be used for next year as well; with the major rules revamp put back until 2022.

That decision will make Ferrari's life more difficult, because it accepts that its current car is not as competitive as it would like against Mercedes and Red Bull.

But team principal Mattia Binotto has made it clear that it was more important Ferrari backed efforts to try to save smaller teams than focus on its own competitive chances.

Speaking to Sky Italia about its support for the plan, Binotto said: "Considering the current baseline and the feedback from the tests, we don't think we have an advantage with this choice.

"It wasn't an easy decision, but it had to be made.

"It is a special moment, and it was important to give a responsible signal for the future."

Latest rumors are that the 21 changes might not even come in effect in 22 but rather in 2023.

More time for DAS and three more years of MB/Hamilton dominance?

Much as I'am a fan of Hamilton, I don't relish the thought of years of dominance by any driver.

That's one thing. What bothers me even more so is not to see the new formula come out for another year. Those cars look so much better.

Will be difficult for Racing Aston-whatever name to copy the Mercedes floor LOL - https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/150058/racing-point-2021-rule-tweak-is-front-to-back-change

Racing Point technical director Andy Green says a minor change to the floor regulations for 2021 has proven to be bigger than anticipated and needs a "front to back" reworking of the current Formula 1 aerodynamic package.

The change was agreed during the shutdown as a way of reining in downforce levels for 2021.

The aim is to ensure that Pirelli's current tyres can be used until the end of next season by in effect cancelling out the usual year-on-year increase in downforce.

Aero research by Racing Point since the F1 team shutdown period ended has indicated that the change has altered the flow structure over the car to such extent that it will trigger a completely new package for the 2021 season.

"We've taken a slice of real estate out of the floor in front of the rear tyre," said Green. "It takes a really large hit aerodynamically to a point where I would be surprised if anybody was able to develop their way out of it in the time we have available for 2021. So I fully expect 2021 cars to be slower than 2020 cars.

"It's a huge change, believe it not. A small change relatively speaking to the floor has had quite a significant impact on the performance of the car. It's not just a redevelopment of the floor, unfortunately, it's a redevelopment almost of the front to back aerodynamics of the car to try and recover it.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/151736/f1-cements-aero-tweaks-for-21-with-10%25-downforce-cut

The FIA has finalised a package of Formula 1 aero regulation changes for 2021, creating an overall downforce cut of around 10%.

Around half of that figure had already been accounted for by a change to the floor rules agreed earlier this year.

However the British GPs prompted the FIA and F1 to make further changes to assist with Pirelli's plans to run the same tyres for a third consecutive season by decreasing downforce.

These further changes will include the removal of further slots in the floor, along with a reduction in size of the winglets positioned on the rear brake ducts.

There will also be further changes to the diffuser geometry to further limit the downforce produced in 2021.

Outlining the three new changes in detail Tombazis said: "We will eliminate some slots on the side of the car, on the edge of the floor.

"The rear brake duct winglets, this cascade that lies at the bottom of the brake ducts, we will make that 40mm narrower.

"And the diffuser fences that currently a few of them, the ones that are further in-board and go down to the reference plane, will be limited to the step plane.

"They will hence be chopped up by 50mm."

Some of the changes were already discussed earlier in the year before a change to the floor was agreed upon, and they have now been revived.

"We discussed some of them back in April in May, and then we went just for the floor change," said Tombazis.

"But as the season progressed, and we saw what downforce the cars are producing, we thought we probably needed to go an extra step.

Lawrence Stroll likely did not get wealthy enough to buy the team without having some negotiation skills, but this is pretty special. Racing Point's position in the manufacturer's championship is worth a fortune in the payout. Maybe he has some interesting photos.....
