I like that appearance more I think. And I think mine originally was the same as yours. I have an extra top so can test a couple approaches to refinish vs restore to original.
Try this before you spend a lot of money on anything. I used this and it looks fantastic and lasts a long time. I also used it on the engine of my Dodge 3500 and it looks brand new (that was a year ago). https://www.chemicalguys.com/black-on-black-instant-shine/AIR_SPRAY_1.html
Sorry, I haven't taken any pics of the roof itself, so just have these where you can see the roof quite well.
Just in case others see this thread, has anyone redone the headliner? How do you get it apart? Just pull on the parts?

So far just remarkable. Shiny black, no haze. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is a small learning curve. It’s rubbed on with a scratchy pad until the white cream starts to clear. Then wipe off with microfiber towels. Original glossy gel coat is revealed. Leave on too long it’s a lot harder to wipe off and you need to go back over it. Tough to photograph. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The instructions recommended a orbital device but it’s not needed for such a small area. Doing a boat of course it would save your arms. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Progress. It’s very hard to photograph this without artifacts. As I’ve progressed I’ve learned to recognize areas that need some retouching because not enough oxidized material was removed. So far I’m super pleased. This is original with no wax, coatings or anything to wear off: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Notice all those stripes and circles are gone from the original pictures?
I don’t know what previous owner did to the top, I guessing gel coat like Crowndog did, but when I bought my car 14 years ago, this is what my top looks like and is still looks the same today. It has some kind of shine to it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks nice Mike! I didn’t gel coat the top. From what I understand this is how they where made. Gel coat and fiberglass. I suppose it’s possible your top is a clean original but I doubt it. After this many years it should have an oxidized grayish layer on it. More than likely your top was painted or coated with something to look that good after all these years. But I could be wrong it certainly wouldn’t be the first time.
Good question. There are two types of them. One is smooth and the other with a textured surface. If they are fiberglass than I would assume yes. I will test mine tomorrow to see what it’s made of. If it’s not aluminum or steel than I’ll try it and post some pictures here.
Like all things Ferrari there are few always rules. My US 85QV GTS has smooth and was original to the car.
May just hold off on this step. Apparently others have used it and it requires reapplication. I’ll try bare for awhile knowing if the Corona virus doesn’t get me I certainly won’t live another 35 years.
