I have my OEM 512TR exhaust in a cardboard box in the basement.

Anyone with a better storage solution ?

With my 328 I just used the box the tubi came in. There must be a more elegant solution?

    I can’t find a container long and tall enough (~42in x ~16in x ~16in).

I stopped by the container store...their largest box was not tall enough.

Are you serious? You are concerned that your exhaust systems might be perishable if not stored properly?

Given what is going on in the world today, I rank your conern, one billion out of one billion. Just my 2 cents worth.

That exhaust is not worth the storage space that it takes up

    Sell it!

Keep the exhaust. I wish I had my original exhaust for my car- some day I'd like to Classiche it.

I wouldn't store it in cardboard as the cardboard absorbs moisture. I'd put it in one of those plastic containers.

My basement is on the slightly more humid side, hence my concern for rusting over the long haul.

My plan was to find a bin and keep it in that with some moisture packets/Desiccant; but
I can’t find any plastic bins large enough!

I am open to suggestions on where to start. I tried the container store with no luck.

(And for what it’s worth, we all handle stressful situations our own way....my method happens to be sorting this out between the back to back 12+ hr plus days at work preparing for this virus)

Normally an exhaust is stored on a car....temp extremes as well as getting wet and sometimes salt....mine is in bubble wrap in my basement....you're overthinking

    You are amazing!

Right but the hot exhaust keeps a lot of the water from actually rusting it out. Unfortunately the tubi pipes all sound so much nicer.

I really don’t think factory pipes are stainless...

I don't think there is anything wrong with him posting here, regardless of what's going on in the world. This isn't a Coronavirus forum. I believe we're all getting plenty of awareness on that issue. This forum is a nice diversion and I'm grateful for it. It is worth pointing out that you're here after all, and there's nothing wrong with that either, by the way.

Well, I'm a total purist, so I would argue that they both belong on your cars. But, definitely do not discard them. I would wrap the in bubble wrap and place them in a plastic bin. I would also keep them in a climate controlled environment so they don't oxidize.

Glad the item works. Looks like it was almost custom made for the exhaust. Great storage solution at an affordable price!

I'd put a cheap harbor freight moving blanket under the exhaust just to be safe if you move the container since the bottom of the box doesn't offer much "dent" protection. It's not clear so you might forget what's in it in a few years or not pay attention. I used the exact same box for my 430 stock muffler setup.

If you have your exhaust handy, can you measure it?

It’s important to realize the home depo box is not a perfect rectangle/prism, and more trapezoid shaped (larger on top).

This worked for my TR since it’s narrower on one side.
