    And the huge rivalry in 1971 between the Penske/Donohue/McLaren M16 and the 'factory' McLaren M16 that Revson drive and snagged the pole with. Mark wrote about that in his book.

    He could not be a nicer guy.

    And maybe you could post some excerpts from the original article?? I have a copy of that issue if you need to have your memory jogged.

    Kirk, a number of years ago I looked at a house that was for sale on Commodore Island in New Smyrna Beach. When I went into the garage, I saw a poster of the Penske 512 on the wall. I asked the Realtor if she knew anything about it. She said the owner of the house was friends with the guy who raced the car years ago--which was you. I didn't realize it at the time, but your house was either next door, or just 2-3 houses away. I didn't buy the house, but the gorgeous location on the Intracoastal has remained vivid in my memory.     Read it in one go. What a life, what a character. Some people do in one life what 1000 others do not manage..,
    I loved every chapter and hope to soon see the hardcover...

    Very sad to see on FB just now that Kirk White passed away yesterday March 20. We exchanged a few words just days ago, quite a character I met him briefly in Fort Lauderdale years ago. His book don't wash mine was a brilliant read.

    he was of course one of the main men behind the 512M Sunoco and instigated the first classic car auctions in the US.

    Knew Kirk from way back when he was a neighbor and I was a kid drooling over his sports cars. Was involved with him more recently, peripherally, as he wrote his book, which, sadly, will now be published after his death.

    He was a very interesting guy, had a kind heart, and I'll miss my email conversations with him.
