And the huge rivalry in 1971 between the Penske/Donohue/McLaren M16 and the 'factory' McLaren M16 that Revson drive and snagged the pole with. Mark wrote about that in his book.
Nathan. You should contact Kirk. He's working on a book. hmmm.... and you might have some insights for him. He could not be a nicer guy. And maybe you could post some excerpts from the original article?? I have a copy of that issue if you need to have your memory jogged. Dave
Kirk F White Ferrari Magazine 1970 - 1971 Racing 512 M FS on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=190131146777
I had that December issue, probably got it at The Detroit Auto Show. But alas, my paper route money wouldn't have covered the transportation of the 512M, let alone the purchase price.
For any of you that may wish to endure my long and winding tale, take a look at Welcome to Kirk F White or "Don't Wash Mine" By: Kirk F White. Trust you are all well and for heaven's sakes, drive your Ferraris! All the best, Kirk F White
Phenomenal to have you with us! I have read the very beginning - the Le Mans story - and look forward to reading the rest. Amazing!

Welcome here... I just read the first chapter. Very interesting, your French adventure. Arrrggh...! The fantastic Kirk F. White-Penske-Donohue/Hobbs-Sunoco-Ferrari... What a name, and what a car ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can someone please post the picture of the newspaper cover? That would be hilarious to see! I'm sure someone here knows where to find it...
Kirk, a number of years ago I looked at a house that was for sale on Commodore Island in New Smyrna Beach. When I went into the garage, I saw a poster of the Penske 512 on the wall. I asked the Realtor if she knew anything about it. She said the owner of the house was friends with the guy who raced the car years ago--which was you. I didn't realize it at the time, but your house was either next door, or just 2-3 houses away. I didn't buy the house, but the gorgeous location on the Intracoastal has remained vivid in my memory. Best of luck to you.
Read it in one go. What a life, what a character. Some people do in one life what 1000 others do not manage.., I loved every chapter and hope to soon see the hardcover... If I would have the means I would by his Daytona which is for sale at the moment...see pic. Cheers Christopher Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very sad to see on FB just now that Kirk White passed away yesterday March 20. We exchanged a few words just days ago, quite a character I met him briefly in Fort Lauderdale years ago. His book don't wash mine was a brilliant read. he was of course one of the main men behind the 512M Sunoco and instigated the first classic car auctions in the US. RIP Sir.
A legend, and his passing does not diminish that...….Godspeed Don't forget Gurney's blue Daytona in the Cannonball run. Kirk F White, sponsor

Knew Kirk from way back when he was a neighbor and I was a kid drooling over his sports cars. Was involved with him more recently, peripherally, as he wrote his book, which, sadly, will now be published after his death. He was a very interesting guy, had a kind heart, and I'll miss my email conversations with him. Image Unavailable, Please Login He's center with the microphone. This is at the 2nd Annual Kirk F. White car auction. A precursor to all of the big auctions held now. Godspeed Kirk. Dave
