I have a very good idea what the next Icona is, it is not this car or related to the F40. Indeed, I would be suprised if Ferrari wants to have anything to do with this F40 mash-up. As I've said before, I salute anyone that raises money to make their vision come true; kudos deserved. But in terms of marketing this car successfully, the way the world looks over the next 3-5 years, climbing Everest in the dark wearing a swin suit would be easier, in my opinion.
This would have to mandate this Icona not be built on the F12/812 chassis and drive train like the current Icona. Not possible to copy the design of the F40 like those renders with a mid-front engine chassis. Since Icona is built on production chassis (for cost savings and also not to compete with the hypercar) then it will have to be the SF90 or the old 458/488 chassis again. More likely the SF90.
personally if i had the cash, i would consider asking pininfarina to come up with a design that could be built on a pista platform that took design elements of the F40, but re-imagined - like Glickenhaus did with the P4/5 and Enzo. if i did that, i would keep the design for myself, and make only one (well i might give one other person the option to amortize the cost, and i know who that would be).
ross I did speak to Pininfarina about doing a rebody of a Ferrari chassis and they have the following conditions. 1/ explicit factory approval required before they go near it. They were doing one offs for Ferrari when I spoke to them about 3-4 years ago 2/ if it’s not a Ferrari chassis you can’t mention Pinin without paying extra 3/ if you don’t pay you can’t say who designed it
hmmm ok. this is the result of the p4/5 story i guess. well i think that means that if you cannot get Spa approval (highly unlikely for a civilian like me), then you need to find a different designer that is still of the right calibre - maybe bertone.
Just wait for what is coming (was planned for July 2020 but now postponed) from another very renowned coachbuilder. And no, I will not say more. Marcel Massini
That's just another futuristic Ferrari, not really in the spirit of Icona. And no offense to futuristic Ferrari's but, big deal. If a "future F40" has any chance of being better than the original, it would have to be way more analog than that, maybe even have a manual transmission coupled to an 800hp motor. The next Icona will probably be a berlinetta. @George330 thoughts on that? -F
that sounds promising. however, my objective would be to have 1 of 1. like p4/5 or the clapton car etc.
After Jim got his project through, Luca shut that down real quick. Remember Jim saying it was a special moment that existed for a brief period? After the P4/5, all projects that had a Ferrari badge had to go through Ferrari. -F
I got a very interesting legal opinion from Singer Vehicle Design's legal counsel on how the whole process works as regards to the way to do coach built cars on a Ferrari chassis that means that you have full rights to do as you wish. It can even have Ferrari badges on it so you could easily have Touring, Zagato or whoever you want that was willing to risk the ire of the factory. My personal choice would be Fioravanti. You have to be very careful and most trying this are not.
Jason Castriota could be interesting as he did a lot of the work on the P4/5 but I believe was tied up at Ford or somewhere like that last I looked. Ken Okuyama was the lead designer obviously supervising Jason and I do like what he did with the 612 Scag. He is also a free agent that was happy to do something on a Ferrari chassis, I think it was the Kode 9 or something. I did like the look very much, I think he struggled to get past his work on the Enzo.
