when you install this vacuum pump in the original orientation then the drain hole is not at the buttom, it is 90 ° turned see again my postings with photos here: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/vacuum-pump-on-tr.386800/
I know exactly how they break..its on removal. If the pump does not come off square to the studs, or is forced off with a screw driver by prying ,the shaft will snap. I know this because way back when..I broke one doing just that. Lesson learned.
on my broken shaft I have seen bothsides rotating marks on the shaft parts. so this must happened then before removing. or someone before me put all together again without caring? nevertheless I agree with you tom. but this is not the only way for the shaft to break I think.
Either way, they do not break, they are being broken. Big difference and supports my position on their failure mode. Yet another act of human intervention and assigning the blame on engineering.
Possible it was put back together broken, see earlier post where someone admitted to doing exactly that.
Remember the guy years ago here that broke 2nd gear in half on his Testarossa? He asked if it was possible to take it apart and weld something in place of the gear so he could use the car skipping 2nd? You can't make this stuff up.
I am a subject matter expert in Design for Maintainability. If something breaks when you are removing it, then it wasn't design correctly in the first place.
Even when removing it incorrectly and stupidly? Sorry but you must not be very good at what you do because that is an absurd position. Like removing DC 10 engines with a fork lift and damaging the mounting pylons? Please.
Nice rod my friend. Have a 90 myself. Good move and beautiful car. Rifle driver is the man on this board! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Yes..I have seen plenty with the spline drive still in the end of the cam. Its like they just leave it in there and reassemble. The one I broke, my old boss made me pay for..its a lesson I have never forgotten. That bugger was expensive even back then. I think it cost me about 400 bucks, equivalent to about 3/4 of a weeks pay back then..
Well thanks for that..I suppose those "do not stand up" signs at the top of a roller coaster are for me..
I remember reading Kerrys thread years ago and it seemed there were more the a few. What about the diff carriers in bbs, bbis,TRs, Testarossas great engineering or crappy design? Newman any thoughts on that? Just kidding, you love the originals ;-) What about 360 cam variator failure, I think they even admitted that one. I would not bank on ferrari being the most trusted in admitting problems with their road car's engineering. I love 'em, but they have issues and the list is not short.
Name me a brand that does not. Japanese cars are the most recalled on the planet. I have not yet met the person, a person in a position to know that has not criticised some of Ferraris engineering. Bet lets be real.. Not every part that ever breaks is their fault and it serves no ones interest to blame shoddy repair procedures on perfectly good engineering.
