Anyone know what's the best paint to get and how best to apply it?

These guys do it, follow the instructions exactly and it works well, you'll need about 7 days for it to dry fully

You can buy VHT crinkle paint at most auto stores, in aerosol cans. I used it on my 308 valve covers and timing belt covers and it came out great.

Mine is looking dull on the 360. Any advice on freshening it up - other than a respray?

google some videos on red wrinkle paint. lots to walk you through the application. IIRC VHT is the only paint source I found. I went to Napa, AutoZone, Advance Auto and Oreilly here in MN. They only stocked the black. I ended up ordering the red via summitracing.com

I also powder coated...in my home shop using the Eastwood system. You can see the process in my intake refresh video. And the powder type / supplier is in the description...

No the plating shop did all that, but if you noticed, they polished the lines and the letterings, I know it’s not the original look but I kind of like it.

I do them frequently. It's quite a bit of work that begins with stripping all the old finish.
The three little words on the paint can that mean so much: "prepare the surface".
