Hello All, Extremely excited to say I purchased my first Ferrari earlier today. A 1990 Testarossa in Rosso Corsa over Beige with a Nero dash; 10,450 miles and in spectacular, original condition. It was an awesome experience to say the least and I wanted to take a moment to thank a particular FerrariChat member... I can’t thank Rifledriver enough. He was gracious with his time and welcomed me to his shop. He spent quite a bit of his valuable time on the phone with me and corresponding through emails. His wealth of knowledge and expertise in these cars really helped me in my decision making process and it made all the difference when it came time to buy the car. In addition, this forum has been great and I’ve learned a lot from everyone’s input on various topics. I look forward to contributing my own stories about the journey with this wonderful car. Since it is no longer a philosophical conversation I forgot to tell you how to close the front hood. First, people will want to help. Ask them not to. The front hood has a stiff rubber seal that requires a good deal of pressure on the hood itself to compress the seal and latch the hood. The hood skin is aluminum and easily bent. Many TR's have wavy areas in the aluminum skin at the rear corners from not closing them correctly. One side at a time use both hands flat, one in front of the other right along the outer edge of the panel where it is well supported and press straight down with the greatest pressure near the edge until you hear the latch click. I then grab the rear edge near the wipers and give it a little tug to insure it is latched. Repeat on the other side. Enjoy the car. see you soon.
Also, surf around a bit and buy yourself a windshield cover and never park outdoors without using it. The dash in that car looks perfect and I'd hate for the Texas sun to screw it up. Also I leave the door windows cracked open for ventilation unless there is a chance of rain. Then sit down and read the owners manual.
As a corollary... don’t yank or pull excessively on the opening latches. The plastic pieces supporting the latches break easily. Excess rotation on the latch will also break cables. if you need to yank or pull excessively, the latches need adjustment. It is a bit finicky, but easy to do.
The front hood latch requires quite a bit of pressure to engage and open. The rear engine bay latch easily and freely moves. I’m thinking the front latch needs adjusting.
I found them strong and reliable though, the regular once I felt they were going to break on me anytime Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah... but if they do fail... you’re likely hosed. these cables are a 60$ part. No excuse not to keep them up to snuff and well adjusted.
Really like the black dash. I purchased my '90 about 7 months ago and it has similar mileage. Enjoy every moment of it.
Wow, congrats on the purchase. I'm not a fan of the brown dash, black is the way to go in my opinion.
