I was very lukewarm on this car with the initial photos....however.....the configurator is up and it actually looks good. Need to see the price delta to see if its worth it or not.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is that a new McLaren color? I don't think I've ever seen a 720 in that color. Hmmm, different, but 'piss yellow' (American Graffiti ) would not be my first choice.
Aesthtically, looks like a 720S with lots of add ons. Do like the look of the rear. Should be a stellar track weapon.
Seriously? A British company comes up with the name 'Sicilian Yellow'? I hope they took a poll of Sicilians first to see if they mind.
I went through the same exercise this morning when my dealer called me for a deposit and I was pondering the "value". Here was/is the issue for me. Its going to be roughly $100K more than a base 720S to start before options. A few in the press have said base MSRP is $380K USD. My dealer said just south of $400K. Thats $90-100K more before you tick the first option box. The configurator tells us that everything that was optional on the 720S is still optional on the 765LT- meaning you dont really get any "free" carbon bits. Assuming option prices are the same, we all know the "average" 720S stickered at around $350K - so around 60-70K worth of options. If we start adding louvered fenders and roof scoops, senna seats, harness bars, etc- we are easily looking at a $550K MSRP on a car they wont discount a penny. If a low mileage, high option 2019 720S is wholesaling at $250K, thats $300k out of pocket to make the jump. Another way of looking at it, its a 720 plus a 488 or a 720 plus a GT2RS. Sure you could lose the roof scoop and a few options and have a $450K build. But thats still a 720S and a used 488 or GT3RS. Is it a better car? Sure. The original premise of this thread was that the 720S is already peers or better than the Pista. Now theres this incremental improvement. I personally cant get myself there from a value standpoint. Im sure there are plenty in this forum who wont blink an eye....
Im in the same boat as you. Id like to upgrade but really depends on what the economics look like. Rather than 450k on a 765, I think Id rather custom build a Porsche Singer and keep my 720. 380 base is hefty but in line with the Pista. at 400k Im interested. At 450-550k, not thanks.
McLaren trying to learn from Ferrari how to get more money My bet is that these cars (Pista, 765LT) will be exceptional value a few years from now.
but does it have auto start/stop ??? I hate saying it, as trivial as it is, this has a lot to do with my decision. I don't know how you all are getting pricing, as I have a deposit and confirmed allocation, but still no pricing. I too am in 400ish camp, yea.....500 ish, nay.
I think they will sink quite a lot. Sound is crappy and all of them meaning what matters is performace. Newer cars will have 1000 to 1500 hp and with torque vectoring in every single wheel they will also be much faster in a track.
True but this one is different and doesn't add up when 99.999% say the opposite and reports from those with the two cars don't agree at all with his account. Whats even funnier is how it took him a week to reply with a photo yet was posting in between time on other threads. I still call BS. Hounds!
I like it, but like others have said not sure the value is there for the upgrade over the 720s that I have. Price point in 3s, yup, price in the 4s, nope. Will wait and pick up one in a couple of years. Honestly, these cars are getting out of control. The 720s is scary, almost dangerously to fast for public road use and now the 765LT. Of course other manufacturers are going to respond in kind, where does it stop? I get making the cars faster on track with better mechanical grip, better aero, but more power and lighter to boot. I’ve actually been driving my 458 more because its more manageable, the few minor mods on my 720s have made the car absolutely brutal at full open throttle and just scary. I can’t even imagine the 765LT.
You can most definitely be in the 400’s depending on options. Pricing is an assumption based on good starting price intel and previous option pricing from the 720,600,675. Start/stop is an EPA thing. Not sure you’re going to avoid that except by buying older cars.
They will undoubtedly depreciate as there are simply too many Supercars. I do think you’re wrong on the prospect of newer heavier electric cars with big numbers and consummate big weight. There are more than enough of us who really just have an old fashioned infatuation with ICE.
Absolutely. I'd be far more interested in buying a 765lt over any of the new Ferrari hybrids or F8. Not everyone subscribes to huge weight and even huger HP and torques to offset all that lard. And then there is the hybrid factor which isn't all that appealing especially when it's coupled up to a turbocharged V8 all muted up with GPF. If it were an atmo 9000 rpm revving V12 or V8 it would be a different story so long as some of the sound made it's way out the rear pipes. I'm very much liking what what I'm seeing and hearing about the 765. Has a lot of presence! Should be very exciting to drive!
I'd say it will eat Pista for breakfast and have a more raw track feel. Lighter, more power, a real full titanium exhaust AND IT SHOOTS FLAMES!!!!. I'm in!....if I can get one.
Wait what??? You are getting a Mclaren??? Has he’ll frozen over?? Lol. Congrats man. Welcome to the dark side. Ha
