ok, but did a driver ever change a tire on course, during a race? And, it must have been a front tire only, right - because the rear tires were huge.

It gets a little weirder, pre 1969 all cars had to have a specific luggage area as well as the second, generally unusable seat and the spare. Prototypes did not have to carry these from 1969 but Group 5 sportscars would possibly have. Can anyone confirm if the 512s had the mandatory luggage?

Most of the photos posted here (not all but many) can be found on different websites and without ©. So they are only pictures transferred from one site to another. If an original photo is posted for the first time on a forum, even with the name of the author or owner, it will be copied and recopied many times. During the migration of the photo, the author's name will be lost or even "removed" sooner or later. It is easy to hide an author's name on a photo. Everything can be done with Photoshop or other software. Those who post their photos on the Internet lose control of them. Those who want to avoid this have to keep their photos in boxes. I have personally posted many photos from my collection and it's fun to find them on many forums.

Likewise I don't mind if my photos are reposted on forums but when used for an article or an ad, both of which have happened, I go after them, I got compensated in payment for use in an ad and with a database that was useful to me after one of my articles got completely plagiarised and my photos used with zero credit to yours truly back in 2008.
When I use photos I try to mention source if it is known but often it is not....

1008 being raced by René Herzog at Vila Real (Portugal) on 3 July 1971.
8 days later this car was totally destroyed in the Pedro Rodriguez fatal accident at the Norisring in Germany.

Yes, correct of course, Rene has great memories of that time, I met him many times in Florida and Modena and stayed at his house near St Gallen, he also was one of the drivers employed during the production of Le Mans. Here is 1008 after the accident at Norisring after they put out the fire and took away poor Rodriguez.

One of that last pictures of the great Pedro Rodriguez in #1008 just before the disaster. He was one of my favorite drivers in the 70s. I remember the shock when I read "Mexican pilot Pedro Rodriguez killed at the Norisring" in the newspaper when I was still living with my parents. A sad day.

Franco Meiners at the wheel, great stuff. That is how a proper racing car should sound. Thanks for posting!

I just watched the video and pictures of Pedro Rodriguez' horrific crash in 1971. I am shattered....
So, hoping to not disturb the general greatness of this 512 S thread, here comes a slightly "off topic" post, just to bring some joy.

    A different 512 S in different surroundings!
Interesting article in classicdriver.com, about designer Filippo Sapino and his special 512 S Berlinetta, (make up your mind what is striking you the most, the bulldozer, the car, or the girl! :D) :

I don't really know much about the car but the main thing is the fact that I love the car. That particular car will worth some millions as of now.

Hope the book is accurate. After having read this complete thread twice, one might get confused. Not sure the book is going to help much....
But at €10, you can't really complain! :D
