When inspecting any F40 take a while to look at the the headlight glass to see if it is damaged, you'll see some marks or pitting on the glass with most F40s, the pitting in it should be commensurate with the car's miles and stated use (road and or track), very low miles cars will have very little or no pitting, up to 10,000 or so and it should be a light dusting towards the leading edge of the screen, cars that have been tracked or driven extremely fast or on poor roads will have pitting that is deeper and higher up on the trailing edge of the screen, and perhaps may even have a crack or two, of course, nothing should be taken as conclusive in isolation, so you use this information as corroboration of other information you learn about the car

Rest assured I will get that and all it's identifying markings to you as soon as the new owner allows me to identify the car online.

If you want to recover your F40 seats with OEM material it's going to cost you these days, I was quoted @ $6,000 for 2 seats by Ferrari recently, expensive, but the result is fantastic

One of my favorite components or features of the F40 is the gearbox which is exposed to view if the car is affixed with LM pipes

Just curious as to some of the reasons why guys sell these once they acquire them ? The F40 is recognized as one of the pinnacle Ferrari's - hard to believe someone would want to get rid of it, yet they seem to exchange hands and come up for sale fairly often ? Yes ? No ? Thoughts ?

I suppose it’s like anything. Passions change. Financial situations. Life's priorities. Heck, I’ve been a golf fanatic 5 different times in my life, then I’m not, then I am again.

In the case of my father, he got old and driving it was not as easy as before and he does not like to collect for the sake of owning so he let it go.

I recently inspected two F40s. One with 6.000 kms and one with 11.000 kms. Both had more pitting than our 45.000 kms example... I told the potential buyer about this and all other observations and he thankfully denied buying these examples.

This advice is very helpful for all F40 buyers.

Very understandable. It is not a car you casually drive and I find at my age not as easy to get in and out as it once was.

The 1992 has just been sold after 12 years of ownership, that's a considerable chunk of someone's life, he's enjoyed and cared for the car very well, he's done, time for something else, no reason given nor did I ask for one, my job is to find an excellent new home and I did.

That said I typically do not find people selling once they acquire them or in a short timespan, my biggest problem nowadays is supply, most of the cars I sold 3, 5, 7 or even 10 years ago still will not sell when I need one.

Also, whereas in the past I was not sharing the transactions I was completing, I'm making an effort to do so in this thread this year for the benefit of all, so perhaps it seems like there is more activity when in fact it's about the same, a small uptick so far this year but nothing too special.
