Image Unavailable, Please Login interested in a big red 6263. Any advice? Prices are about $80-90,000. Is this a buy? Wait till the market comes back down? Any advice greatly appreciated

I think it’s already dropping. They were but 6263’s aren’t bringing that much today.

I am a past owner and still follow the market a bit on these.

Good ones (correct insert, pushers, crown, bracelet, hand set, crystal, all plots full, perfect dial, sharp unpolished/minimal polish), etc...still command high prices.

Service is also not cheap. If you buy one that does not have a current service doc (by a known service expect), you can count on $1500-1800 by someone who knows what they are doing.

And there are only a few watchmakers who I would ever trust a 6263 with. Happy to share those names if you find one.

There are plenty that are priced at the top tier that have one (or many) issues. It’s a mine field if you don’t really know what to look for, what to ask and who to trust.

You don’t want a so/so example without a significant price reduction. At this level, quality is everything so if you ever expect to resell it at some point down the road, buy the best one you can afford. Parts are near impossible to find.

I would estimate a buying number in the $75-85k range for a high quality...but not mint example.

With box and papers for a high quality example will drive the price up into the $90s.

If you want to buy one of the best one around (cream dial) with box and papers, serviced by some of the best vintage watchmakers, let me know.

I have a friend who might let his go. I have been considering it for some time. But the number is big as you would assume.

There are also a few trusted dealers I can recommend who might be able to source what you are looking for.

Here is mine. Sold it last year and miss it. But I will add one back into the fold at some point. Image Unavailable, Please Login

    Good luck in your search.

And the rest of the stuff so I don't keep posting ... :)

The Breitling was my father's watch that I think he bought in the 70s. He passed away in 2010 and I never wear it as it still has his smell on the leather strap and it's the only thing I have of his.

The Seamaster was the first nice thing I ever bought for myself in the very early 90s when I was emerging out of meager means.
The Corum is a result of a plethora of poor decisions by me in the late 90s, but I find it adorable for some strange reason. :)

The rest is what it is and subject to ADD rotation.

Very helpful, insightful advice. I suspect it like my Dino.....it’s getting harder to find great service

I’m still on the hunt. It’s on my bucket list.

Yes, similar buying and servicing a vintage Rolex as with a vintage Ferrari!
You just have to weed through a bunch of junk to find the diamonds!
One difference, you can be ok to send a vintage Ferrari to the dealership for service.
But I would never recommend sending a vintage Rolex like a 6263 to back to Rolex.
There are several highly respected indie Rolex certified indies that a better at servicing while preserving.

The hunt is half the fun so take your time! Just like with cars.

Here is a pic of my friends if you ever decide to pull the trigger. He might let this go,
