Checking to see if I got this correct..set bank one(aft bank) to TDC on 1-4 and reference notches on intake and exhaust cams should line up with notches on cam retainer. Then turn crank to pm 5-8 (front bank) and align referance notches on cam and retainer? The same as opposite cylinder bank...
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge

If you are looking to check cam timing on a 3.2 qv. leaning in over the engine, see if you can see a pair of indicator arrows over the right hand side of the cam box end. Should be one over each cam box end. Early engines did not have them
Find out the crank rotation direction from the crankend pulley, if i remember correctly you should find a small V cut into the edge of the pulley.
With a socket on the pulley bolt, turn in direction of rotation until the V lines up with the tdc mark- look at the cambox indicators and the lines on the cams should be in line with arrows. If not then do one more rev on the crank to bring on the correct stroke.
Been a few years since i did this so please jump in if i have got this wrong.

Looking on the mondial 8 diagram i dont see the timing ref plate. If you look at the 3.2 diagram called timing control system, item 12. Pt no 125109. This is the indicator you set the camshaft lines too. No idea how its done on the mon 8. Rifledriver is the man to ask as he will know

With the engine at TDC 1-4 all 4 cam marks should line up. I have never seen a Ferrari motor with timing marks on the front pulley. They are always on the flywheel. Many of the V8's did not have external cam timing marks.

All mine had was a tdc mark to line the crank pulley up to.

So the cam alignment marks are inside the cam cover on this and they moved them external on the QV ?
The other pic with the yellow and red lines- what am i looking at there, as i dont recognise that.

They didn't move them -- circa mid-80s, they added some more very crude external marks on the backsides of the cam drive sprockets (that either lined up with a pointer or marks on the belt covers IIRC) so that it could be quickly, and easily, determined if something terrible had happened without the need to remove the cam covers.

Those crude marks as you call them , we used when changing the cam belts on the 3.2. I got rid of the mondial as i could not bend down that far into the wheel well as i got older- i could get down but had a hell of a job getting up again. 430, no belts, great

Nothing (too seriously) wrong with doing that (if you are not messing with the cam drive sprocket-to-cam adjustments) as those marks are meant for detecting something like a belt jumping a tooth (i.e., a 12 deg shift), but they aren't meant for anything precise.

I did the belts that way and it worked fine over 20 years, besides thats the way the ferrari workshop guys told me how to do it, could not afford at the time to have them doing them so it saved me a pile of cash.
I used to time 5000 hp V16 diesels, similar idea but we lock the cam and move the crank, as you cannot do it the other way.
