Le Mans 1970. Here's the fourth of the Scuderia Ferrari entered 512 S, not in the photo of post #604: 1038 of Ickx-Schetty. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes Ick lost it on a wet track at the Ford chicane under braking, the other marshalls managed to run away but the one who was killed had been sleeping. Jacky Ickx offered to pay the schooling of the kids to the widow but she refused...
The photo is wonderful, however, you continue to refer to the Giordano car as #1046. I am trying to not be so biased and asking a legitimate question... The Giordano car was never confirmed to be #1046 or #1004 for that matter. Is it really appropriate to continue to list it as such? Nothing has ever been definitively confirmed and assigned by Ferrari, Classiche or anyone else. It has been assigned #1046 number by historians making their best educated guess.
No guessing here. Two factory letters to Giordano state that his car is 1046 and not 1004. He was also asked to remove the fake tag. He refused to have his car certified. Marcel Massini

Whether it has a short or a long tail, Mr Giordano's 512 S (should I say #1046?) is just spectacular from all angles.
Further reading and highly recommended. 100 pages and hundreds of excellent color photos from 1970. ISBN # 978-4-905248-36-1. Japanese and English text. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login

That may be so that Giordano was sent letters and refused to have his car certified, however, in speaking with the people that I have over the past couple of years- these people are classic Ferrari owners, racers, collectors, etc- there is much speculation within that group about the legitimacy of the Classiche process. Specific to this particular thread (re: #1004 // #1012 etc) and which is which // who owns what- I have been told "Im not so sure..." regarding the car that was certified #1004. So if this is the case, I can understand why a car owner- such as Giordano- would be apprehensive, reluctant, and not interested in getting the car certified.
Speculations are............well, just speculations, usually from people that simply do not know. Not more than that. How about doing the homework first? Rather than guessing and speculating? In the future you may want to post in the completely separate Ferrari Classiche thread where you are free to say your concerns regarding that system. I actually think there's even more than one such thread about Classiche. The search button is on top right. Oh, and btw, just fyi the factory is quite actively monitoring the entire site and all threads. Marcel Massini
Im not sure why my posts are met with your ongoing frustration. I responded to what you shared regarding #1004/#1046. Im only sharing what people have spoken about at events, and and Classiche is definitely a topic. And people do not only talk about Classiche, but also concerns about legitimacy regarding other car brands and their histories. And Im happy to learn that Classiche monitors the postings on websites like this. Perhaps posts will contribute to their growth, improvement, knowledge, etc.
