You are a gifted writer. And drive a pretty fast car. Well done on all accounts.

The unmistakable, eloquent writing style of W. Mitty. It's been many moons old friend. Happy to see you're now enjoying a Pista!

WOW! I just got delivery of my 2020 Pista. Love the post and sharing of the story.
Makes me want to take the Pista to the track ASAP.
I was wondering.... I was told to drive the Pista easy for a few miles. How many miles
would you recommend before I track it?

    Fantastic write up!
Great to see you enjoyed yourself.
Next time simply go to Germany..... Top speed runs all day every day!
Managed to get the 812 up to 213MPH but traffic stopped me from going faster.

As I alluded to earlier, without documented proof, it never happened. Got this in the mail today, and I have, accordingly, attached it for your viewing pleasure.

Splendid!!! Was it the highest speed achieved by a stock car at the event?

Bugatti Chiron, 261 mph. No surprise there...The McLaren Speedtail hit 250, but it was during private testing, not the type of event us mere mortals attend. I believe a highly modified Ford GT was the fastest car ever to run at the Venue, hitting 292. These were all long runs (2.7 miles).

While we're on the subject, a highly modified, parachute equipped Ford GT set a new record recently at the Texas Mile; 300.4 mph in the measured mile. I can't imagine the prep work that would be required to achieve this feat. Certainly more money, time, and expertise than I will ever posses.

    Great story!
What was the speed on the speedometer while you were driving 212?

I did 342km/h (212mph) in 488 on the road by speedometer, but real speed was only 330 (

If you are talking about the gt2rs that ran it in the northwest last year that was a buddy of mine and it was modded.

That is a great question, and I would like to know the answer as well. I was so focused I didn't look down...hopefully, when they release the in-car video, we will be able to see what the actual speedometer error was.

It might be in the trip computer. Depends on if you have driven it since that day.

I should be as long as it's not been reset (assuming the speed was not exceeded later ;) - the trip computer keeps the highest speed reached, until it's reset; if a higher speed is reached, it's updated.

Not sure that is correct. Both of my trip computers are showing 21.2 miles right now and they seem to be the same trip. Top speed was 76mph and average was 26mph. Looks like my last trip to the tennis club and I took the twistys on the way back.

Maybe an electrical glitch has reset both trips? normally they should not reset unless directed to (individually).

No, I think it's probably some setting in the menus that dictates how they operate. I never messed with it since I got it two years ago but I notice this is the way it works. If I want the top speed, I have to snap it that day.

They reset themselves periodically in my 458. I haven't paid that much attention, but may be when the trip meter goes over 1k miles and starts again at zero.

Other cars can reach those (indicated) speeds also. A LF for example. Unlike the Chiron these cars can also turn...

Came into the office this morning, took a look at the news, and decided to create my own private reality. :) To that end, I hereby respectfully submit this photo for your consideration. It just appeared in my inbox this morning, courtesy of Johnny's photo team.

While I'm certainly biased, I think the Pista is one of the best looking Ferrari's of all time.. this photo seems to capture the essence of what makes it so special. What's more, it's got so much performance hiding behind that pretty face.
