I was looking at this manual 599 when the guy in a nearby office piped up and told me this car has a GTO engine. Is there any validity to that? I don’t see anything on the dealer sticker but I don’t have the original window sticker. If he’s right this is a seriously rare car. I hope I attach this link correctly.......

Walker- If she had a GTO engine, the dealer would be touting it. Even then, I would not believe him without going over her with a fine tooth comb.

Rare enough 2011 3 pedal without making stuff up.

All you have to do is look at the headers. If she has the normal 599 3-2-1 headers with four precats, she does not have a GTO engine, which has 6-1 headers with no precats.

Totally agree Terry and I thought about the headers after I left. I would also think the asking price would be far higher if it was actually a factory GTO engine in a GTB body........manual transmission aside. In any case, it is a spectacular car with only 500ish miles.

Yes, i'm the first owner. I spec-ed it myself and bought it through Giuseppe Risi :)

Wonderful car, to be sure ... but no GTO engine.

I guess this combined with the manual California sale really tells the story of popping of the manual bubble. No doubt that the manuals will continue to command a premium because of ease of service and rarity in numbers (and the driving experience to some) but I always found it hard to swallow a 3-5x price over a non-manual car.

now that would be something ...finding a wrecked GTO and having it retro fit with a manual box.

For the last manual V12 Ferrari model ever produced, I would say that's a steal.

Not that it's particularly relevant (because in the end what matters is the final price), to reach this 281K value the net selling price has to be lower than 236K, considering the custom duties and the VAT (situation is not very clear because it's not a French car, so custom and VAT rules are not as straightforward as for a French car). If the car if then exported from France, the VAT can also be reclaimed so the final price is even more unclear.

Is the engine itself (long block) any different between a GTB and GTO? As I understood it, the only differences are the intake manifold, exhaust headers, and tune. Clearly in the photos it has the GTB intake manifold assembly.

NO 281 000 € is the price you pay. If the car remain in Switzerland, fine, if you import the car to an other country, you pay the VAT on top, you cannot reclaim the VAT ! My 599 is coming from Switzerland, i paid 20 % and not the 10 % custom duites extra as mentioned by Artcurial. The seller even told me to go back to France thru Germany then I will import in Europe at 19 % instead of 20 !

If you talk to the wrong guy at a dealership (or anywhere), you can end up with absolute BS.

Samuel- Long block, short block terminology is really only applicable to Lampredi vs Colombo SOHC engines. The 599's F140 engine block is about the same size as the F116/F133 family of engines in the 456-612 engines. The big difference is the chain cam drive and VVT.
