Wasn't the GNX only for 1987?

    I like your style!

what makes them so incredible is how smooth and docile they are when not pushed. You'd never think a soft purring kitten cat can roar like a tiger the way it does
20+mpg and big block torque out of a 6 banger makes it the best Musclecar ever, at least for me :)

The turbo is not bigger, It has a ceramic impeller that let's it spool faster. Boost is almost instant and the lo end torque is a monster!!

It also has aluminum drum brakes, but who really cares about that!!

The panhard rod is part of a ladder bar rear suspension. It unique to the GNX, no other Gbody. The GNX has a single ladder bar system that pushes the weight of the vehicle down on the rear tires under boost. It's sooo badass, it raises the rear of the car as it loads and then drops under acceleration. It's actually the biggest engineering difference between the Grand National and GNX. And It f'n works!!!

My baby blue 1985 Regal Limited with it's bench seat and column shifter has a complete 87 GNX chassis under it.....and It is a sleeper like no other.
I used as an everyday driver for quite a while. I'm gonna have to search for pics...........

Yep, but the first prototype was an 86.
What makes it xtra special was that automatic climate control was discontinued in 87.
The 86 prototype was factory equipped with the automatic climate control that was optional for the pre 87's. Making it the only GNX so equipped. I'm not 100%, but I think the sole 86 GNX is in the hands of a private owner, and not GM.

I've always love the GN's...! It's so out of character that a Buick would be the "bad ass" Darth Vader of the late 80's. About once a week I see a guy in his fifties driving an 86 or 87 GN down Bradley Parkway in Columbus, GA. The car looks good but the paint is showing it's age, etc. I'd take it in a second! I've owned a lot of cool cars over the years, but never a GN. There was a heavily modified one for sale some years ago,I took it for a test drive. It had issues and didn't run right, but still was scary fast when it hooked up, can't image how quick it would be if all was working right. The GN is an icon...I just love 'em!
