Off the wall and back in the ocean!!

An 8' 0" red one, brand new tri fin FCS set installed, missing when I bought it. These both are in very good shape, surface scratches only NO dings or dents that compromise the glass.

I think you will be stoked.
These are actually the newest boards in my collection.

The smaller blue one is a 7' 6" but with the same tri fin set up, like wise brand new set.
    Thanks for looking.....

    I dunno……$300 and $350 each, or a package deal.
    Best offer, really...….

    Aloha.

You aren't going to wait for the next flood in the neighborhood?
Splashing around in the 'bathtub picture' #16648 would be waaaaaay more fun!!!!!

Counting, I have eight or nine left to go!!

    Bigger, more famous....blue chips!!
Hobie 9' 4" red, maybe a balsa veneer SurfTech Hobie, two of those...

But yes, that was my defense to staying here watching the flood go by...…."I'm not going to sink.."!!!!

    Yater spoons....

Still have two really nice Velzeys, one of them near the final board he personally made...
Good grief that one was expensive...

This pair was sitting on consignment and perhaps even sponsor product to a young lad on tour.
So, not terribly expensive, although I'm losing money here.
Are you supposed to MAKE money????
    :D :D :D

Mainly I had fun putting the fins back on, and of course colored surf wax......
    That's Miki Dora...…..melted Crayons.....;)

I put a fresh layer on this evening, they smell Tropical now!!!

That's pretty funky water, by the time its fast enough to be flushing the curbs...….it got to the fire hydrant snout in the front street.

    Boys -

For those that aren't constrained by time, space, distance -

Anything from Tex's collection is worthy. Bargains, to boot.

    Despite Title - Malibu
Many moons later, Miles Davis lived next to pier. I will attest that he looked good *and* scary in a yellow Ferrari.

Tex's boards can gladly handle these waves, much lighter than the redwoods, etc. in video.

That was paradise to Miki Dora, after Gidget he was gone....

Surfers Journal recently did an excellent piece that linked the SoCal aircraft industry to the advancement of the sport.
As balsa became readily available, the guys, Hobie, Yater. et al......would get 'first view" of the bundles, even learning to pick the naturally curved ones, to glue up and aid in shaping the rocker!

Oh great tandem shot in there!
    Thanks wax...

Then of course Clark Foam blew the whole scene open into the beginning of what we know today.
Clark Foam recently called it a day and all the concrete forms were jumbled into the dump, probable gravel on a road, by now.

Indeed one of Velzeys classic shapes was labeled The Malibu Express, I missed buying one on eBay as they were shaped under license towards the end of his life, but still bore his signature.

If you email him, his wife still answers. They had to sell the Triumph Bonneville (modern) he had ordered, as he never got to ride it.
Hot rods, horse riding, SoCal, "as it was"...….he was a pretty hard party guy, too.
Someone stole his extensive collection of riding spurs, in a party.

My quiver was in anticipation of a final career, peaceful retirement, and finally going walkabout to see past the Texas beach breaks.
I am actually feeling good, but work prospects for Old Guys just are not coming to me.

You can see my bigger Yaters in the Hawaii Section where I posted them in the Thread "Three Spoons".
The Yater Spoon of course was also copied (well, refined.....) by Greg Noll to become the Miki Dora "Da Cat" board, which is so valuable people are cloning them!
They busted a big crime ring recently.

Greg Noll is making art pieces, boards made from the stumps of Old Growth redwood, taking it all around, "back to where it started".
His son is helping, Lord knows what one would cost!.

My SurfTech boards are an anomaly.

They were digitizing famous shapers, taking it high tech in the shaping of the foam cores, and then laminated them thinly to LOOK like a vintage balsa board!!

    Just beautiful to look at.
I have sold my 10' 8" Velzey and the buyer reported back he could not find a beach house wall that long!!!
It would not lean in a corner either.....LOL

Anyway because of the foam core I would expect it to ride pretty high opposed to a wood one, but most of mine have never even seen use.
I pictured mounting them by bedroom:

"You sleep in the Hobie Room upstairs, the Yater Room has twin beds for the kids...Velzey Room is down the hall but has a disco mirror ball."...;)

Then mom sold all Dads real estate, and that dream crashed into a Close Out!!
    Thanks for looking......

Love Miki Dora. He wanted the purity of wave & rider & nothing to do with the circu$. Drummer I knew snagged a Da Cat board from a Flea Mart I told him about, as I'd picked up a few '50s-'60s pieces here and there for 15-20 bucks. I missed it by a day. In any instance, it was unmolested & hanging on his wall.

You may need to have him check it....real, it's worth a mint.

I don't recall the exact particulars, but the clone boards were surfacing in a length that Greg Noll never made!!

    9' 2" vs. 9' 4", or something like that...
But yes indeed, there's been competition boards surface in Cali garage sales, for pennies.

I had neighbors in the 70s that would hunt the longboards and shave them open to cut a 7'6" mini gun......sigh, that's hard to recall.

You know we have a member here, gblue.

That's Gregg Blue, of Hawaii, that knew Dora well,
He is quoted, among many in the book on him.

He sold his Dino 206, for a Cobra, but I guess he's still here.
Operates "Maui Dream Cottage", website that's him!!

NO no...my house is here, We look at these two islands from my deck which is in the vid around the 5:30 mark on the hillside.

Today is going to be good surf! That 4' 10 second northish one is going to make a very nice day to surf!

    https://magicseaweed.com/Kailua-Surf-Report/671/

Unfortunately I will too busy...again and too tired and sore from my present day job! :-(

We only get surf occasionally but when it's good it's fun and memorable. Enough to stay tuned up but mostly wind swell that is softer, slower and kind-er to people like me who are getting old! Those two rip curls are really nice looking sticks! I have so many boards, like you BT, that I can't make up a reason to pick up any more. Those sure would make for a nice Kailua Quiver though to add with a 9'2, 9'4, 9'6 and a 10'-0 or two!

I googled that maui dream cottage - says 'permanently closed'.

Boards: did someone ever take over Clark Foam when they quite?
They were 'THE' supplier of board foam, until the kalifornia EPA came in and
basically forced them to close, with all the new laws they put in force.

    Good queston!

Reading up, the giant sucking sound of Clarks closure was filled by two employees founding US Foam, and it did generate a lot of experimentation in alternate core foam tech!

Found some good articles about it.

Well, there's not a Houston Surf Shop that will have them.

They are of Chinese manufacture so I would be doing good, to get $300 for the both of them..
Anyone know a kid that would not know the political world economic repercussions??

I just picked them up as fun boards, and paid from memory over $700 by the time I put the new fin sets on.

I am driving in the rain to Galveston tomorrow, for a shrimp enchilada lunch and will find some kids on the beach, and give them away.
Thanks for looking....Jesus this is worse than my drum kits...

    SOLD....

Got $100 each, and a credit against a Hobie Cat 18'...….it's all good.
    :D :D :D

I was going to toss them in the Gulf Stream and send them to Florida, but this well known boat dealer in Houston has two grand daughters, so I like that end to the story...

My apologies to the chatters that wrote today.

I had loaded these three or four times to try to sell in Houston, and today I loaded them ONE last time and headed to Galveston on literally "E' on the gas gauge.
So they were going to sell or I would have been working in a beach front restaurant....which is really slow, in winter.

Sorry, as I was really disappointed in the results, but met a cool old waterman, and that counts for something, these days....
Us cool old guys are burning out like cheap light bulbs...….

We should move this thread into Owners Section, where we can always find it to watch the vidoes!!

The boards DID end up as I wished with two young sisters.
So that part, (and them figuring out the melted crayons) makes me smile.
    Stay safe everyone.

A Hobie 18 is more my speed.

Xmas 18 was in Rincon, Puerto Rico. My youngest taking lessons at Maria's beach. Guy comes up to me telling me about the 50th anniversary of the world championship in Rincon in 68.
It's Reno Abellira who competed in it. The guy is got to be 70's but fit as can be. Interesting day!

    A legend!!

    Thanks for that..

Yep, chatting again with the buyer about the Hobie 18, still there, then he mentioned he might be turning loose of his low miles Caddy XLR!!

So selling these cheap may have several dividends, life is so strange....
