After replacing the front hood shocks on my 1991 US Testarossa with everything ever recommended in the cross reference thread, I still can't find a good front hood shock that will keep the front hood up. I just put in a new OEM....read expensive set and two months later, they were already getting weak.

Any really good suggestions out there? I hate having to pull the hood up, holding it up with one hand and putting some groceries in the trunk with the other.

I think rifledriver mentioned those from a mondial or something to that effect.

Send them to Frank at Strut Wise in Vancouver. Ask if he can charge them up stronger than stock.

I put the Mondial ones in back in 2018 based on Rifledriver’s recommendation. They’re a perfect fit and have worked flawlessly ever since.

I’m not sure what year Mondial. I called Ricambi with the part number 60563300 and ordered two. Only one holds up the rear compartment cover on a Mondial, meaning that it’s pretty beefy. Put a pair on your TR’s frunk hood and they’re up to the task. Mine so far have exhibited no fatigue.

I put a set in ours about 10 years ago and it still holds the hood up.

The Jeep hood does not have anything but a rod that manually supports the hood.

One common aftermarket mod is to add gas struts to make an easy lift and hold the hood open.

Then, the owners complain of hood misalignment. Seems the struts over stress the hinges in the closed position and cause failure.

The point: high pressure struts may hold the hood open.... but you may be causing damaging levels of force in the system.

    Use all due caution.

How long does it take to happen on a TR? We have been using them for about 20 years now.

Yes, I've used all the different types. I was asking rifle as a concours judge what his eye will pass. Sachs or Stablis seems to be most used for oem.
I can buy a US made one off of Ebay for 16.00 a pair and free shipping....but it's what's proper for concours.

We do not judge brands of parts. If they look the same we don't care. You must be thinking of the Corvette or Porsche club.
