So ..... been searching the forum and noticed a few threads on Jack points for the 360 Spider. Need to fix my curbed wheels hence the question. My Ferrari specialist indicated that you can also jack the 360 Spider rear from the steel axle on either side of the rear tyres. Anyone heard of this? Says that it's the only steel part of the car and it's safe.
If you look under the car you'll see the spots. Never heard of jacking it up by the axle, for the rear there is a round pad just in front of the tires. There is a spot open and you don't need to remove the tray to do it. Similar in the front.
At the front of the car, Use the frame extrusions just behind the front wheels to the inside of the rocker panels. At the rear of the car there are large round jack points in front of the rear tires, which have round holes in the rear underpanel to access them. Do not jack the rear of the car up using the oval tubes that go across the rear of the car, as you will crush them if you try to lift the car using them. Your mechanic is wrong, there are no steel axles that you can use to jack up the car. The whole chassis is made from aluminum, there is no steel in the chassis. Brian Brown San Francisco Motorsports
All good - had a wheel repair guy assigned who usually works on Ferrari's at dealerships. Found the front and rear jack points - no problems. Thank you very much to those who contributed to this thread. Much appreciated.
I've only had my 360 9 months and have no need to jack the car up yet thankfully, but I remember reading that people have used hockey pucks to put on top of the jacks to protect the jack points from damage.
There are literally tons of threads on this all over the forum using the "search" feature. Unlike many other sites, there is no dangers looming using the search term "jacking".
Thanks Redneck for your insightful remark. When searching at the time, found there’s also a lot of differing opinion and contradictory advice in those same threads. Thanks to the individuals here who actually offered something positive to this thread. Peace.
Based on the information I have gathered this a safe jacking point. I place the hydraulic jack just behind the bottom of the wheel well on the frame rail. You can't see the frame rail. The frame rail is there. The jack stand then goes just behind the the hydraulic jack. Remove the hydraulic jack. Stay just inside the rocker panel lip on the underside of the car so as to not cause damage to the rocker panel. Use rubber mounts on the hydraulic jack and jack stand to protect the car. If you are planning to go under the car I recommend using two jack stands side by side for safety. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Again, I don't necessarily see any reason for "information gathering" when the jack points are clearly marked in the owner's manual. Maybe if Mr. Targa and others with the same question would have went there in the beginning, we would have less threads with that add confusion and opinions to an already accepted and documented process.
Don’t be perturbed. Other than the diagram in the manual I thought a visual would be nice. I put the jack at the mounting point in the manual. Never saw a picture before. Pictures are good don’t you think?
Absolutely. Not "perturbed" though I would have opted for a bigger bite on the frame rail. It's just that when there is a well documented and finalized, non-technical process that has already been established, then "gathering information" (such as the horrible advice the "Ferrari specialist" gave the OP), it can lead to negative consequences like jack marks on an uncarriage leading to "structural damage" entries on carfax, failed inspections, etc., not to mention less sever issues like forums being flooded with the same questions that have been answered hundreds of times.
