It’s a big chunk of $$ so buy the one you like the most.

If money is not a concern ...the 458 would be your best choice making sure both are good cars ...Service, condition etc being even

Don’t count the 430 out. Nearing rock-bottom depreciation, it may be a better investment for fun factor per $. Not everyone needs 562hp on traffic filled roads.

You really need to drive both and then the answer will gain clarity for you.

Quite different machines, one more raw and visceral. One more refined, albeit a bit subdued (only my opinion) but with amazing performance.

    I owned a 430 from 2011 to 2014; loved it.

Currently driving 991T but Ferrari is where my heart lies.

458 any day fo the week. F1 (presumably what this is) won't be an "investment" anytime soon. 430 and 360 get nervous at the limit when handling. 458 finally got handling right.

I also think it largely depends on the intended use? My spider is mainly a weekend car, driven around town, top down, for fun. I love the looks of the 458, as well as the hardtop (for obvious reasons), but would "assume" that the 458 really needs to be at speed to be enjoyable?

Modern day Ferraris, unless a rare model ie 16m/cs/ scud, buy the latest and greatest.
    I say 458

Regardless of color, F430 is much more appealing to my eyes. For everything else, the 458 I feel would triumph over the F430.

If you regularly drive at the limit, yes. At more common road speeds, 430 is more fun, while 458, like more modern cars, has yet to wake up. Multiply that by 1.5 for the Speciale and 2 for the 488.

458 is just better in every way including the stereo. F1 gearbox is crap. You don't automate the steam locomotive, you get better technology. I know I know.. MGB and other english crap is perfect for the road because it's so engaging at 50 mph... :)

Love my 430 but vr is right. It feels old and is more of a choice to drive with its trade offs. It is the last analog Ferrari imho.
458 is faster, newer and the first real digital fcar. You can’t go wrong with either. Amazing cars. Buy one. Enjoy. Buy the other later.

I currently own both a 430 and 458. For me, 458 all day and everyday. I prefer driving it so much that I am thinking of getting rid of the 430.

All great feedback, and we are all obviously lucky to even be having these choices!!

The 430 was my first Ferrari, so that was where I started. I’m sure at some point I’ll trade up to the 458. Obviously they’re both amazing

It’s all about the journey and you learn along the way. I purchased my 430 first then added a Testarossa about a year after. I did not enjoy the Testarossa so sold it for a 599. I found that I enjoyed the 430 more than the 599, so I traded the 599 for a 458. Now I find that I enjoy the 458 more than the 430. So much so that the 430 just sits in storage. I think the OP has to drive both cars to see what he prefers. These cars are different and unique in their own ways. It’s a win win. The 430 was my very first Ferrari so I would love to keep it. However, not driving it is a shame.

They are both so different...I really think you need to drive both and see what fits your needs. 458 is much easier to drive..the 430 is more engaging that by the end of the day it actually drains you a little bit. The F1 on the f430 is crap compared to the DCT in the 458. 458 is not as raw as the 430 but the tech in the 458 is so far ahead that you kind of enjoy the car more....its just nicer all around. But if I could only own one car its the 458 all day (maybe a scud) or I say get a 458 then get a 360 gated after while there are still cheap. But you really need to drive them first.

Newer is not always better. As some said drive both and see which one meets your desires.

I can’t comment on the F1 gearbox, my 430 is manual, but yes its limitations are well publicised! I wouldn’t buy a F1 430.. I’d take the DCT in a 458 any day. But your appeal to extremes argument is flawed. Just because English crap like MGs (and they are crap) are engaging at low speeds does not mean a Ferrari which is more engaging than another at real world speeds is to be equated with English crap.

There is no fair comparison between a 430 and a 458 because one has either gated manual or F1 transmission and the other has DCT only. But there are many people who will testify to preferring a 360 CS over a 430 Scud (both F1) due to engagement, and also a Spéciale over a Pista (both DCT). And my point is that in a similar way, a 430 is more engaging than a 458, and I will stand by it, while having no love for an MG of any kind..and therefore, I have my gated 430 and am not swapping it for a 458, magnificent machine though the 458 is. For my occasional weekend usage, the 430 is just more..engaging!

Oh I won't trade my manual 360 for a 458 either. it's just too good and too much fun. But the F1 430 will drop IMHO to about a $5-10k premium over the F1 360. And I predict with time that price is about $50-65k dollars while an F1 360 is $40-50k dollars. Respectively the 458 with the new models as all Ferraris drops to the $80-90k mark. It's a ways away.. but the F1 transmission is a crappy transmission.

The F1 transmission is certainly a love/hate affair for people. I like the feel and having to drive it like a manual. I bought mine with new clutch with 9% wear over 3,500mi and it's dialed in perfectly. It shifts like butter under 4,000rpm. It shifts quicker than the DCT in my 2015 GT-R. When shifting above 6,000rpm that punch without a pre-selected gear of a DCT is slower, more purposeful, and adds to the driving experience to me. I'm not an idiot, if the styling of the 458 did it for me and I wanted more digital systems I'd be driving one. That I paid half the cost of a 458 is just the icing of a cake made-to-order for me.

Drive them both, buy the best sorted car that thrills you more.

I really really really loved my 360. But I love my 458 WAY more. I also have experience with a 430 (brother used to own), and I still love the 458 WAY more. I really like that the 458 has multiple personalities. It can be very civilized, modern and comfortable in sport mode if the exhaust valves are closed, windows up, and stereo on. Then when I want to play, I put it in race mode, open the valves with capristo controller, and open the windows. It sounds truly amazing and better tuned exhaust note than the old models. It screams more like an F1 car! It's insane. If you ask me, it is worth every penny of upgrade over a 360, or 430 (if you have the funds). However, since I still think that the 360, and 430 are both amazing as well, you would need to drive the 430 to decide if you prefer the more "mechanical" feel to it, or the wider personality, more refined, and more reliable 458. The 430 has a narrow purpose, it's a very exciting sports car. The 458 goes from the luxury sports car end, all the way up to a wild crazy animal! I LOVE IT more and more every time I drive it. I had it for 2 years and put on about 4,500 miles so far. I hope to continue enjoying it for a long time.
