No! They can't leave without being beaten first.

And I doubt they can be beaten in 2020.

A Mercedes team without Mercedes money and political power is vulnerable. They can keep the inertia for a year or two, but from then on, who knows. Look at Williams without Renault and later without BMW.

Well, *I* am hoping he joins Ferrari because I'd like to see him in red.

As for Aston Martin or McLaren: Yeah, whichever gets the nod from MB for rebranding. That's probably the more logical choice.

    Agreed.

I'd think the momentum/whatever is in the pipeline would carry the rebranded team for a year. After that they might become another Sauber.

A Ferrari team without Ferrari money and political power would be even more vulnerable than they are right now.

A Ferrari team without Ferrari wouldn't exist at all. Remember that it's not a rebranded BAR-Honda-whatever.

Anyway, it seems they're not quitting anytime soon.

If Mercedes really does leave as a manufacturer will they really be that motivated as an engine supplier? Manufacturers come and leave F1 when it suits them and this may be the time for them to exit, concentrate on its core business and Formula E. Without the enormous investment from Daimler Benz, I am not that concerned with what is left continuing being the most dominant team ever in F1 history. Something tells me that Verstappen got wind of Mercedes potential wavering in its huge commitment to F1 and locked down the best seat available to him in F1.

Isnt it funny how some of the media are saying the Mercedes DAS system has now been outlawed for the 2021 season? Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that the 2021 technical regulations were published on the 31st Oct 2019.

Unless the FIA technical team had a crystal ball, it stands to reason Mercedes have had this under development well before that date and the FIA have (conveniently) written rules to ban it.

Will other teams have time to develop it? Will they bother ?

There is every reason to believe that while DAS may itself be outlawed; some similar toe changing with steering input WILL be found to be F1-manufacturable.

I don't get why they would ban Das other than making other teams happy. The majority of fans say that they love to see this inovaton and its the reason why they watch F1. I thought FIA was listening to the "fans" to further grow F1. The 2021 cars are already slower, heck this would have made them more interesting.

One team said you need 6 months to develop this system. Now out for 21. Why expend efforts

“What was very nice about the last major change back in 2009 was that it wasn’t more restrictive. But these new ones for 2021 are very restrictive and prescriptive. And I think that is an awful shame.

“It makes it a little bit GP1 which is not what I think Formula One should be.

It’s been pushed through regardless of what people think, so whether it’s good for the sport or not, only time will tell.”

I get the feeling it will blow up in their faces.

Agree with Newey, of all the things people say about current F1 , it still remained mostly open when it comes to design freedom, 2021 spec cars are not F1 like.

"*If* several F1 races are cancelled, then will be interesting to see if F1 compensates the likes of SkyUK for loss of advertising income.

A friendly reminder that, for the 2019 to 2024 contract, Sky are paying F1 around £7 million per *race* (based on 22 races this season)."

I'm starting to wonder whether my trip to the Zandvoort GP was such a good idea. Will it take place? Will I feel comfortable to sit in a plane for eight hours?

Maybe my ticket will be a write off :(

Latest rumor is that the 2021 changes might not go in effect next year but will be postponed to 2022.

Rationale is that with the current season being crammed in the 3rd and 4th quarter of the year, the teams won't have time to develop the new cars.

So *IF* they drive in 2021 with the 2020 regulations, does that open the back door for DAS?:p
