Who can lead me in the right direction where I can buy the ‘custom fit’ scrape guard for installation under the 575 front spoiler? Thanks in advance Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Gene- Probably will not do much for you since there is nothing really solid to mount them to. Will actually decrease your ground clearance.
Thinking about it you are right. I believe I have them on my 599 and they help me not get nuts if I scrape but on 575 I may be out of luck. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
www.cargraphics.com are doing Bilstein coilover lift kits for many different Porsche models. I bet the 456/550/575 Bilstein shocks are the same as are being used on som of the Porsches from the same era. It is worth a try. I will call them and ask. It really would solve the problem.
Ok. Thanks for the correction. I actually called and sent email to Cargraphic today. I await their reply. I am going to get a pair of their rear mufflers with a rear mounted vacuum tank and their own bypass system. It can be controlled either by rpm. or throttle position. The original 550 system open up at 4000 rpm. which is way too late.
Erik- The 550 valves pretty much only opened at WOT, too. The 575M actually starts opening below 3000 rpm at around 65% throttle.
Thanks so much. Can you provide me a web sight for Maranello skunkworks. Can’t seem to find Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Can you give me contact info for Maranello Skunkworks? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Yes. I see a 458 here quite often and it opens the valves very quickly after he goes over a speed bump at Maybe 2.500 rpm. and 30% throttle. That makes the car more alive and you can have some fun without flooring it... Ferrari probably understood the problem when the 575 were build. Would be fun to be able to start it cold on open flaps too... The 575 is like that?
I have been looking for a solution like this since I damaged the radiator in my 456 when an impact pushed the fiberglass panel upward. This happened at a big compression on a bumpy backroad, so a front lift is not what I'm looking for. Has anybody fabricated a skidplate or something similar for this purpose?
Erik- No, stock the 575M valves are closed at start, unless you fit one of Steve Bisel's kits or one of the other aftermarket kits. Those give you the choice of controlled by ECU or open.
Maserati Club International made a device for the Biturbos so that it would hit the ground before the oil sump. Plenty of Biturbos ran out of oil as it was normal that after a few years the cooling fins were gradually grinded off by the tarmac... It boltet to the engine mounts If I remember right. Not a bad idea. However, the frame at the front of the Maranellos are not very solid and not made for that purpouse. You just need to find better roads!
