I have a 1989 328 GTS that I would like to update with a “Plus 1 or 2” factory wheel set. I am wondering if a four wheel set from a 355 or a 512TR would fit on the 328 without interference. Can anyone confirm which is a better fit for an ABS 328?

Thanks, Billy. After reviewing those threads, it appears that the best solution is using either 355, 355 Challenge, or 512TR wheels. Additionally, for clearance in the rear, 8” front wheel widths must be used on all four corners.

I followed the thread on the Challenge wheels on the 328. Cannot comment on the looks because that is purely personal, but the acceleration comment is so hard to believe. A saving of 16 lbs (all four corners) on a car that is 3200 lbs could result in noticeable improvement in acceleration is just not measurable let alone noticeable. But hey, maybe I am just the only one with uncalibrated butt.

As for the challenge wheels, you need to buy the real magnesium challenge wheels and not the $3,000 aluminum reproduction because the reproduction ones are heavier than the stock 355 wheels. I personally like the stock 355 wheels on the 355, on the 348, and potentially on the 328 but I have not tried that on my 328. Look hard and you can find some used 355 wheels for 2500-3000 bucks.

    Good luck.

Mule, I love the look of your wheels on your 89. Could you tell me who makes these?

Don't want to get this thread off track too much. Mine are Compomotive made for the convex wheel 328s. Search Compomotive here, and you will find a ton of info. Not made or available anymore, though.

Thanks, guys. Those Compomotives are sharp. Too bad nobody makes anything for these cars anymore. I zeroed in on 355 front wheels for my ABS 328, until I realized that they were 7 1/2” wide. Okay for the front, but I don’t want to go down from 8” in the rears. I suspect that only leaves 512TR fronts as an option?

I can’t believe that the only photos on this thread with upgraded wheels consist of four BLACK cars!
Thoke, those 355 wheels look massive on your 328. What tire sizes are you running? Did you have to do anything at all, to get those 10” wheels to fit? Nice car!

Contact Mark (Mke on Fchat) as he can get some forged 16-18" wheels for you. The forged blanks are made for modern (high offset) wheels so pushing the face out is not an issue.

The 355 wheels aren't all that massive for the car, possibly just the perspective of the pic.
Front required 12mm spacer and rear required 20mm spacer. Fitting without exceeding the fender was made possible by tire size, front 215/40-R18, rear 265/35-R18. Tires are Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R.

Hi Thoke! I really like the look of what you did with wheels and tires on your 328. Thanks for all the info and pics. I bought a used set of 355 wheels for my ‘89 328 that need refinishing. I’m going with satin black for my Rosso car. I’m having difficulty finding 12mm spacers. The 20mm size seems common, and 15mm is available. Do you happen to recall where you purchased your spacer and lug bolts? Regarding the lugs, FerrariChat users call out 355 lugs as 52mm, as measured from under the head. With spacers, that equates to 64mm length bolts for the fronts and 72mm length bolts for the rears. Do those lengths sound familiar to you? I appreciate any input that you may be able to provide!

Contact Hill Engineering. If he doesn't have them on the shelf no doubt he can make them for you.

Thanks! They have 13mm and 20mm. Close enough! I’ll post a pic to your attention this Spring/Summer when all is done. Appreciate the input!

Spacers and bolts were from Hill Engineering. Traveling this week- will check the bolt lengths next weekend.

Bolt lengths 64mm front and 72mm rear is correct.
