These are the weights I've been quoted. Stock 488 and F8 cast wheelset. 104 lbs. 25 lbs front, 27 lbs rear. Forged 488 wheelset. 96 lbs. 23 lbs front, 25 lbs rear. Forged Pista wheelset. 83 lbs. 19.5 lbs fronts, 22 lbs rear. Forged Pista Spider wheelset 79 lbs. 18.5 front, 21 lbs rear. Pista/F8 CF wheelset 72 lbs.
Reading https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/488-oem-wheel-weight-comparison.564292/#post-145674950 it seems the stock wheels are 120 lbs and the forged ones 104 lbs - that conflicts with the numbers above (could it be that the 96 lbs is for the "accessories" forged wheels?)
Let me get back to you on that. I may have mixed up some numbers. The Pista wheels I know are right though.
So..........I find some of the responses on here fascinating.......(not just because I am OP). First off, I very much appreciate everyone's response......that is why this forum exists and I love it. Everyone has their own opinion and style........which is why you see so much differences on car specs. I do see a lot of responses that divert to weight (not only here but on other posts). For me, rims are all about the look of the car, not the performance (assume they all will hold up to abuse on track). Yes, I have spent way too much time in my garage staring at my car.........as most on here, I am very blessed and fortunate to own a Ferrari and have another on the way. While I understand that 40 pounds is a lot, most of my days are seeing how fast I can go from 0-90 on city streets (which is faster than 99% of all other cars) or how aggressive I can take corners/straightaways on the track (2-3 times a year). So weight of parts, (esp CF) has never been a consideration as I am not racing this car.........but I see so many posts about weight..........just curious if people really want lighter parts to save half second on the track or what the fascination is..............
Unfortunately the engineer in me is always trying to optimize things.... So weight is a consideration as well as the way they look.
There is something to be said for small weight reductions that are hardly felt - however, wheels do not fall within that category. Lightweight wheels are one of those things we as "normal" drivers can actually benefit from, and feel. Trust me, if you go from a combined weight savings on your rims of 120 lbs for cast 488/F8 wheels, to 78 Pista wheels, that's HUGE! It's everything that changes, it's not about lap times only. It's unsprung mass that rotates. Take that difference of 42 lbs and time it by about 6, and that's what it comes down to in terms of internal weight savings for lap times, and then you still haven't factored in how much different and nimble the car feels in your hands on lighter wheels. So yes, one can do all sorts of things for looks and I'm okay with that, but putting on heavy wheels can absolutely ruin the feel of a car, even if you're not looking for better lap times.
Good information......thanks for sharing. Not sure I will ever be that good to tell the difference but I will never give up trying (Apparently, I need to spend more time in my cars! )
Anyone looking to pickup a set of Pista wheels, this guy seems to have the best prices I’ve found: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Ferrari-488-PISTA-Felgen-Velgen-Jantes-FORGED-WHEELS-Rims-Cerchi-20/274094091040?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Can pretty much get any color you want, and other parts as well. I have no affiliation with the seller, just found during a search and correspondence.
I can add two real world data points. Weights are definitely off for the stock cast wheels on the 488. My shop measured 28 lbs, 5 oz for the fronts and 31 lbs 5 oz for the rear!!!! I believe the 25 and 27 lb weights above are actually the forged 488 option wheel weights. One other data point, 458 Speciale wheels are 21 lbs front and 23 lbs rear and they fit a 488 if you use a spacer in the rear with longer wheel bolts so don't see why they wouldn't fit a F8. Forged, super strong, super light, and look phenomenal. I got an awesome price on them from Exoticar auto (in the 6-7k range for the set depending on stock and availability though that was almost 2 years ago). See later pics for the spacers and offsets: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/black-or-corsa-grey-speciale-wheels-6k-shipped.573135/page-2 https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/new-shipment-of-oem-ferrari-speciale-and-speciale-aperta-wheels.602088/#post-146664370
Just decided on Grigio Corsa Pista wheels for my car, placed the order today. Great price from the seller in the EBay ad. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great wheels. I am still not sure if I am keeping mine as is, painting them black or getting all new rims.
Yeah now I just need my car, who knows when on that..... Congrats on your car, hopefully it gets on the Vienna Express!
I believe you can put the TPMS in a learn mode and then drive the car and it will self recognize and find the new sensors, thats just based on what I have read. Hopefully someone will chime in if this indeed does work in the car.
Correct , I played with the dash controls and then kept getting the warning TPMS. Called Ferrari and they said to drive the car so it relearns. Felt like a dimwit
Im going with the Pista Spyder wheels in matt black with Michellin Sport Cup 2 tires. Image Unavailable, Please Login
17 pounds less unsprung weight but who cares right? i just like the black and the star theme of the wheels Image Unavailable, Please Login
17 lbs is a big deal. You would need to remove about 125 lbs from the car if it was sprung static weight. Good choice. Prefer silver wheels though. Never understood black wheels. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
