My first car was a Red '73 Pinto runabout in college. It had the $11 (or whatever) fix...two pieces of plastic baffling between the front of the tank & body.
As a separate side note - I had it in for service at an Indy at about 120K miles and they changed the timing belt. It had several small slices and one massive slice almost 80% of the way through. We were all amazed it hadn't let go though we dont know how long it was cut like that.
Nothing stopped that car from running for long. Many time it would sputter to a stop and I'd pull over, take a finger nail file to the points & off we'd go. it was a tank.
