I need a larger gap at the red arrows, so my glove box will open on its own. It always needed assistance. Image Unavailable, Please Login Now it is stuck. Any ideas how to fix this?

I have in the past removed the upper panel and shimmed it up with washers. You obviously can go too far and make it look like it is too high but from the picture I think you can get the room you need. Also depending on how that panel aligns with the piece on each side it can be shimmed to tilt toward the windshield a little. As I recall in the top of the glove box there are 2 holes to access the fasteners.

Come to think of it, I think that can also happen if that part is installed backwards.

    Thank you so much Brian.

I have to get this thing open first and I will check if the trim is backwards. Fortunately, like you pointed out, this piece sits below and can afford a couple of washers.

I'll give it a shot tonight.

Thanks Steve! I had to peel back some of the leather to access the nut.

I did shim my trim piece. Now it isn't stuck. :D

In all honesty I am not sure how this was supposed to function when new. I want this to drop down when I hit the button. Right now it pops out, just enough, to grab onto it. I am conditioning the leather around this area and looking into lubricating the hinges. That top trim piece was holding my glove box shut.

there’s adjustment possible on the hinge pin brackets that bolt through the dash left and right of the glovebox that could allow more movement/clearance. Mine pops open most of the time but sometimes I have to pull it.

only issue is you can only access the right bracket’s bolts with the kneeboard off. Left one is accessed from the radio/vent area

Typically when the cars were new the glove box only popped open.

I'll consider this job done. I am happy to hear these boxes only popped open. I would have pulled my hair out trying to get this to fully open by itself. :D

You are very lucky that glass didn't come out in a million pieces. I need to try harder. I have never gotten one out with so little damage.

The mirror glue is getting ever more old....

Many leather conditioners make for tacky leather. Try a silicon based conditioner in the area where the leather touches.
