Just wanted to wish all you fine folks, hell, even the not so fine folks a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Lester
I'm always happy, when someone wishes 'Merry Christmas' instead of 'Merry X-mas' or 'Happy Holidays' Thanks Lester and the same for you and your family. And for all others as well, who delivered useful help and/or entertainment throughout this year. Being on FChat for two decades (including the old, archived website), I believe, that I only kept the car for so long because of the help I get here. Great folks. Thanks. Best from Germany Martin
I want to share with you a Cristhmas gift that I was given (restored) today. The fun thing is that it was already given as a Christmas gift (new) 43 years ago by the same guy. The story repeats. Ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can’t believe it, coming from Mexico up to my Illinois home, expecting a white Christmas and what we got was more sunny and 60°. Going for a drive, merry Christmas to me. And, merry Christmas to everyone
Christmas morning now here in Oz - torturing the kids by making them wait to open presents Merry Christmas everybody!
There are significant differences between the countries. Here (Germany) on 24th there's the 'Christmas Eve' and gifts are presented. Rarely anyone works - except those who work on Sundays throughout the year anyway (hospitals etc.)-. Though shops are open till around 12.00 a.m. 'Christmas' holidays are on 25th AND 26th. Same in Alsace-Moselle, Martin, and for obvious reasons: work usually stops on the 24th at about 16:00; presents are given on Dec. 24th evening; Christmas holidays are on 25th AND 26th, whereas in all the rest of France ("la France de l'intérieur", - "France from inside"- as we use to say, considering ourself as "outside" Frenchmen) the 26th is a working day. At least a little reward for being the only french departments, where people have to pay church tax. Best Martin
Let's not derail the thread, but... In Alsace and Moselle, there in no church tax: the Church is paid from the central sate budget, which means that every Frenchman/women pays for it; not only Alsace and Moselle. Weird, but true. There was a "Question Préliminaire de Constitutionnalité" to the Conseil Constitutionnel in 2013 on that matter; it said that it was legitimate, so no need to debate. Rgds
